I've seen, so many times, people claiming that the best sounding DAC was the Philips TDA1541A, its "crowned" version being a further delight. So I had to tangibly know, and not only listen of course
Although I appreciate the science behind the review, I have to admit that it was the beauty of this old tech is what drew me to the posting. Use it as a transport with a $200 DAC and no one has to be the wiser to any DAC deficiencies.
I just noticed- I don't think you have the original feet for the tested player, unless they used different feet for different markets. My Japanese market player has concavity on the adjustable parts of the feet, and conical pieces with rubber pads on the bottom that they rest on:
