If my machine translation is correct….. Do you mean you’ll add PEQ capabilities to (a) future Tanchjim dongle(s)?

Note: are you representing Tanchjim? If yes, you may want to register as “manufacturer”.

Nearly triple the price compares to the Fosi DS2, while performing similar even worse in most aspects except higher output power, quite pricey IMO.

In these forums they reviewed the Truhear Zero... thanks to @amirm for the review. Excellent headphones. I wanted to ask if this DAC would be a good purchase for said IEMs. Thank you so much.
(sorry, I used a translator)

Welcome to ASR.
This dac would be a good purchase for any iems in the world, as much as for many full sized headphones.

Apologies if this is a dumb question but would this dongle produce sufficient power to be compatible with active speakers such as the Adam TV5?

If so what a simple and clean bargain for a desk top system, just fire up Tidal and select Tanchjim Luna and your good to go for around US$500.

You mean voltage output to connect to Adams inputs. High gain mode provides 2V RMS unbalanced, 4V RMS balanced. Most laptops and portable gear can barely squeeze 1V out from their headphone outputs :(
It might be just enough to drive the monitors but I rather go with regular standalone DAC like Topping DX3pro or something similar to be on the safe side. Doesn't hurt to try. Yeah, I was thinking similar thing - drive the dongle out of Chromebook into amps inputs.

Seriously, though: I wonder if any listener could hear the difference between the Fossi DS2 and this Tanchum which costs more than twice as much. (Is the anime engraving worth a 237% increase in price over the unadorned Fossi, I wonder?)

The Tanchjm produces 1.86 dB more power into 33 ohms, a difference which some listeners could hear on careful A/B listening - just barely.

The Fossi has a a SINAD of about 117 dB, whereas the Tanchjm offers a 116 dB SINAD. I doubt anyone could hear that difference - but if we are judging these devices by SINAD then the Fossi is superior according to Amirm's testing.

I suppose that sometimes it just comes down to price. Price and anime....

I think it's more of the ability to drive m

Where you will notice the difference is driving low impedance headphones. The balanced output is almost 65% greater then the fosi. To me the trade off of sacrificing 1 sinad point is much worth the 65% up tic in balanced output. All things being equal at low levels you probably won't notice but let's be real when our favorite song comes on we like to crank it up sometimes as free of distortion as possible.

Between this and the Fosi Audio DS2 we are really seeing great dongles. @amirm I would love to see a review of the new FiiO KA15 which is a similar sized dongle but with a screen and crucially PEQ.
The power numbers on the fiio ka15 look amazing. They list max watts at less then 1%distortion though so it's hard to say where they're recording those numbers. I would love to see 1 on the test bench. The peq is a big plus too

We don't listen at max power.
It's wiser to measure thd+n at 1mW and 5mW using 32 ohm load; where most people will listen to their music (or lesser volume).
A tougher test would be at 16 ohm.

No, it is an issue with AP software. It only supports ASIO. I use ASIO4ALL and for some reasons it corrupts the bits for this entire class of audio.
I've had much better luck with Fender Universal ASIO Driver with AP software, if you can still find a download somewhere.

All these DACs, so little time. I'm totally DAC'd out. I have all the DACing I need. But sometimes with little great ones like this, I just want to buy it because it's so small and measures so well.

drive the dongle out of Chromebook into amps inputs.

That works if you enjoy being stuck at a 48K sample rate and chromeOS android implementation (assuming you're using android app to generate sound) resampling/remixing your audio. Let alone whatever heinousness ChromeOS does passing your audio between unnecessary layers of software obfuscation and hardware abstraction, when you just use web-apps to generate your audio.

ChromeOS is like the biggest fail ever when it comes to audio. And there's no way for an app like UAPP or Neutron to directly drive a connected USB DAC.

Is there any argument for buying this over the Tanchjim Space?

Why are so many headphones people and companies into the waifu aesthetic? It comes across as rather virginal
