TAD/KEF 5.0.2 setup exceeding my expectations

move your center channel under the TV please
It’s not lost on me that placing the center channel below the TV would be better, but my adult child with special needs loves to listen to music while he pushes in drivers. Btw, this center also sound great above the TV. You can‘t see this in the photo, but the center channel is slightly angled down. Coax drivers sound best slightly off axis and that’s about how my center is set up. The center speaker image is pretty much perfect for video, seems it’s playing from behind the TV. For immersive audio it does image a little high, but not as much as you think it would. My system is used for TV about 70% of the time. Two channel music is about 25%, and the TADs are hard to beat on that. Immersive audio is at best 5%. So as the song goes, you don’t always get what you want, but you get what you need.

There is an art to balancing life needs and practical concerns with sound reproduction. Having a satisfying system that works for you is important. In the home theater/multichannel space, dedicated spaces are highly valued. This leads to some people prioritizing an ideal system setup in a dedicated room that they rarely use vs. having a great system in a regularly used space.

Can everyone please stop rehashing why this setup isn't ideal when they've already explained 2 or 3 times why they believe this is the best set of compromises for their situation?

Those are great speakers fit for a better larger room. Or those Tads need a larger room. They are literally chocking in those corners
The question is not will R1s sound better in a bigger room, instead it’s about getting the best sound in this room. Also, how are R1s different from smaller speakers with subs?

The optimum listening area is somewhere in the ceiling
And we should demolish all studios with soffit mounted speakers …. Obviously not.

According to Genelec, you either place your speakers really close to the front wall or very far. If the speakers were voiced to be far from the wall, as most audiophiles will want to do, then you need to correct the FR with EQ to compensate for the bass and midrange gain that one gets from the front wall. Side wall and ceiling reflections can be managed with room treatment. Coaxial speakers such as both TAD and KEF sound best about 10 degrees off axis. That’s pretty much how my front speakers are set up. The FR dips that you get on axis are not easily corrected with EQ.
