Swissonic A305

You can try the eq for the Yamaha HS5 by Pierre:

It should be better above about 300Hz compared with your eq.

I would try the Siwssonic out of the box a few days before trying to change anything.

Yeah sorry I worded my initial post badly. I meant that I use those EQ settings for the Yamahas and so could use them as a "flat" reference to match the new ones to. Or try.

Why do you say to wait a few days?

The Swissonic is reasonable flat and neutral, so I would test it first without an eq a few days, so you get a feeling for the speaker and if there are some weaknesses. Than you can start from this with an eq attempt.

Do you like them? How did you find them and their sound characteristics? How low do they go?

Yes I like them. I can only really compare them to HS5s, and they are better than them whether you EQ the HS5 or not. They are incredible really for 89 each. I’m not sure they are for 169 or whatever the rrp. The poor man’s AMT tweeter seems “fast” and “crispy” for stuff like floating points or Jon Hopkins. I’d don’t find it annoying or unnatural. Coltrane/fela brass isn’t as harsh as with the non EQd HS5s, yet certain singing isn’t as good I don’t think.

Bass wise, I’ll send another message as I’ve not used them without sub but I’d say 50hz or so flat. Might be difficult to be definitive as they add a dip around 50 or 60 which isnt with the sub.

They are not noisy/hissy which is apparently a class d amp thing, on par or less once volume adjusted than the Yamaha tweeter hiss.

Who else bought the swissonic v7 or v8 here? Im really tempted to buy them and use as PC speakers

The sale on v8's have finished btw, they are back at 169. I am going to get a shit measurement mic today so I'll maybe say later how low they go on a rough basis.

@olymind1 Apologies, I've realised that I have a room issue from having two speakers doing sub 100hz so not got round to doing everything yet. I'd add I think they are better with a touch of EQ based on measurements posted on page 1. I think they are more sweet spotty than the Yamahas but that might be nonsense. I'll have something else to compare them to as I am going to hear my friends JBL 305s with a sub today. And probably set it up properly

For 180 euro do you think the v7 are a valid purchase as monitor/PC speaker (I got an external dac) or there are Better options?

without objective measurements theres not much point to ask for subjective opinions imho ;)

I would only trust subjective opinions from very few people you can trust (e.g. amir, crinacle etc.)

I think they are great value for 180 a pair, but I can only compare them to Yamaha hs5. I’d be shocked if they didn’t measure flatter and lower than them.

But I am a 40 year old 500 concert/club going human in a room judging speakers where 80hz from the right speaker is so consistently low that i had to check the speaker was working correctly with my phone.

Note there are objective measurements on page 1, albeit limited. I prefer extensive measurements and Amir telling me what it means

I'm not an expert at all, i saw the graphs on page 1 and the V7s look promising for what I can understood. I'm looking for something with more bass than the edifier mr4 I actually have (woofer 4" vs 7")...anyway I Just bought the V7, we will see next week

No worries, i didn't order them yet, though i'm still thinking about it.

By the way, do they have clear mids / clean vocal range around the crossover region? I've heard JBL's 305p MKII and they were lively little speakers with clean vocals and big stage with "floaty" sounds, was very easy to identify placement on them from left to right, it was almost as i could grab the sound before me in the air, hence my descriptor "floaty".

Don't know if it was because the 305p waveguide or its tweeter or the smaller 5 inch driver, because I heared some cheaper 8 ich studio monitors, none of them had that pin-point "floaty" effect so clearly, their upper midrange was slightly muddy, and piano and vocals wasn't as clean on them as on the 305p MKII.

Not sure I can answer such a question really. It's very very subjective, I mean the whole stereo image is pretty much of our own making. Some even talk of things happening behind them, whereas others will 'collapse' a binaural recording from behind to the parallel angle in front. Also I like to sit in a 1:1:! triangle which makes things a bit more headphoney. Moving futher back tends to flatten out the image.

That said, what you mention makes me think of flat response. Taming peaks in the highs makes things sound more placed to me. Do you already have speakers, and using the inverse measurement EQ?

Kinda interesting to me listening to properly (i just mean on stands at correct ear height) setup speakers yesterday in a room other than my own. You can play with the subwoofer volume more in his room, in mines it'll crush you. I realise now people with 2 subs or 16 inch just have big rooms and are not completely crazy :)

swissonic v7 just arrived...is it normal that when setting the input sensitivity switch to +4db there is no sound? it sounds only when set to -10db for both speakers.
Actually they are connected via rca cable to a topping dx3 pro+ dac and to pc via bluetooth.
thanks in advance

Yeah the setting of +4db is for balanced connections, RCA should be set to -10db. I switched to balanced cables as it was causing me hum issues with the sub.

ok thanks.
Another thing, maybe it's a dumb question but, there is a quite annoiying high pitch noise coming from the speakers when connected to the dac. The noise disappears only if i remove the power connector from the dac itself (and thus no sound of course). If there is also the usb cable connected to the dac, and the pc on, the noise increases and becomes pretty bad...is it a normal things with those speakers? With the edifier mr4 and the same connections there was absolutely no noise

I had this before on the Yamaha HS5s using Native Instruments DJ 2 channel thing. You'll probably fix it with a balanced connection. From my very bad memory I solved it by unplugging the laptop from charging. I had issues connecting the V7s to my presonus sub where I didn't have issues with the Yamaha connected unbalanced. But my Yamaha's were connected with UK plugs to a UK extension thing that was plugged into an EU extender, and the sub is connected EU.

Sounds like a ground loop. I had similar experiences with external dacs and non-balanced connections to Studio monitors.

ok maybe I resolved changing the positions of speakers and dac power connectors to another plug

anyway for what I can say, those V7s sound really good!

Amazingly the swissonic v7s kick in to my ears around 30hz, and properly around 40hz or so. Not quite sure what measurements tell me yet if anything as I don't have any proper SPL meter to calibrate with. L and R from the listening position are quite wild but show them kicking in around 30hz. Not sure if the SPL is in any way accurate but it confirms a few things I'd heard already like the disappearance at one speaker. One speaker seems louder than the other, which I'd also wondered about.

EDIT - I am learning, replaced the graph with 1/6 smoothing one
