Hello,

thomann just released a new small studio monitor Swissonic A305

5" woofer
100$
Might be an interesting price performance candidate.

Best
Thomas

As often with the Thomann brands the model name should show which monitor they tried to clone or compete to. ;)
Yes. It also has almost exactly the size of the JBL LSR 305. The price is really low 25% lower than the competitors. I am really interested, if the measurement hold the promising appearance. From the looks of the chassis it could be peerless chassis. This would be really solid for its price.

Reminds me of the Mackie MR series.

The Mackie MR524 seems to have a similar woofer and the flat LED is also used in mackie speakers.

Are there any good measurements of the Mackie MR 524 it also looks legit and didn't cost much with about 125$.

P.S. there is a spinorama of the MR524 here.

With EQ good performance here.

They just released also a more "premium" series with AMT tweeter but still very low prices:

Hope there will be measurements for all 6 models as their prices are beating even the past value for money kings like JBL and Kali.

They also added bigger A models with dome tweeter and 6" and 8" woofer.

The 8" A308 costs145$

That 2,600 Hz crossover is pretty high for an 8" woofer.
Yes it is unusual. Some 8" can manage these higher frequencies but it is very likely that the directivity index around the crossover region is even a bit higher compared to similar speakers. Since even with usual 2 way speaker there is a rise in DI at the crossover region due to cancelations at some angles.
This might give the speaker a bit more of a sounding which some people might even like, since this frequency region is associated with harshness.
Measurements will tell if it is the case here.

Could you please write more detailed about why?
The A series has an Analog Devices DSP which is really nice to work with especially compared to the POS that is the software coming with the Texas Instruments DSP in the V series. Easily adding FIR coefficients was possible with SigmaStudio, too. The A308 is a bit bathtubby iirc, the A306 isn't and still has good LFX. But a proper review would be nice. I have to make do with stitched groundplane and NF measurements.

Any update on this Swissonic series?
These are the control measurements from the end of the tuning process. I would love to offer something more precise, but ground-plane measurements are the best I can do in our workshop.

That looks pretty decent (my favorites might be the A306, V5 and A305, the 8" models have some directivity issues as often the case). Any clues what things are like below 100 Hz? The 50-100 Hz octave makes a major difference in my experience.

One reviewer of the A306 mentions slight hiss at 1.2 m (4'), that's what I was afraid of (widespread budget Class D monitor disease).

Thank you very much, so you were involved in their tuning?

I did nearfield measurements only at the membrane and only during the tuning process, not at the end. That's why I cut off the measurements at 100Hz.
The A series is flatter below 400Hz than the measurements above make believe as there is not enough information with a windowed measurement. I attached one of the nearfield measurements of the A305 from during the tuning process as an example. The hump at 50Hz makes it very obvious that this measurement is missing the port data, the rest is as flat as it gets, but you don't see that in gated farfield measurement at all.
They hiss a little, but I can't quantify that in our workshop. Sorry!

My pleasure! These were the first speakers I adjusted with a few filters (and some group delay correction with the A series). After these I was allowed to toy around spend time with the next speaker for a whole lot longer, but it's still a few weeks until it gets released.
