SVS subwoofers

The new 3000 line have XLR / rca inputs, but not a switch.
If you need to integrate ht with stereo music, generally you have av receiver and stereo preamp (in my case a minidsp flex balanced) ... so... you can connect the rca sub out from receiver and XLR out from stereo preamp, without using it simultaneously, of course.

Is that correct or you can damage the sub even without signal through both inputs? In case of an accident, sending signal in that way... can damage the sub?

In my case is an international call and very expensive ... maybe someone already did it.
I think is a general question having XLR and RCA inputs, and strange without a switch between them (if that can do any harm)
As an example, my Purifi amp have the switch, and i can share the fronts between the receiver and the stereo preamp with total security.

You can also ask @ed mullen on AVS SVS subforum. He is one their tech directors. Usually gets back to you.
 
The older non pro SB2000 had a high pass filter on line out. COnversely I lacked the pasrametric filters to deal with room modes. I opted for the older and rather cheaper version because I prefer to use the more sophisticated filter options of the MSO/miniDSP 2x4 HD combination.

"Mid bass area from 40-80hz." Don't know if I would agree with this statement.
 
I tried the AutoEQ feature that just appeared on my Revolution SB-3000s.
Seems to work well- it even generates a little graph of the new frequency response, although I don't know if they might not polish it up a bit- basically it goes from a big wavy room-node demonstration to a flat line. Please see attached screenshot from the SVS app.
I may well get around to REW / UMIK measurements one day. But not today.
Double bass really does sound better now, definitely worth a look.

I have their new SB5000 R for one channel in a 2 sub system. What mic did you use?

I did it for one channel at first, even that gave a useful subjective improvement. (Instructions say to do it one channel at a time.)
"Mic" is overstating it, though :)
The system is able to use a proper mic but also just a phone, so one places the smartphone on the ground in front of the sub, pushes a button, then does the same at the listening position. Total time about 90 seconds.
It's better enough to stop me bothering to try it with the proper mic for now.

I’ve read in several places that the After Graph is predicted, not measured. REW would let you know.

It says "Corrected" on the app. You're saying that is SVS's prediction? That doesn't sound right.

I’m going to be adding a pair of the 3000R to my system but don’t have any personal experience with the app yet. However, I belong to several sites with SVS specific forums on them and that appears to be the consensus of those who have used the app. After it makes the correction does the app play a sweep again to measure it?

If it seems too good to be true, then it's too good to be true.
I'll drag out the UMIK and see what's what in the next day or two.

How does it make sense to predict the result when all the code for measuring is already present?

Anyway, my anecdote is that we have an SB3000R (Connected to a wireless DALI soundhub which has very limited roomcorrection functionality) and the SVS auto EQ before graph perfectly nails the expected roomgain and the result definitely sounds better than the SVS app roomgain correction I was applying before they released auto EQ.
 
In general there is evidence that predicted EQ runs pretty identical to measured corrected EQ. Don't know the details, Google it (or AI it nowadays...).

HI Mark,

Auto-EQ does not measure the 'after' response - it is predicted based on the filter settings it creates.

If you measure with Auto-EQ in one (1) location, the predicted response and the actual response are very close. If you are using REW to confirm, make sure to take one (1) measurement with Auto-EQ and then one (1) measurement with REW with the UMIK-1 in the same exact location.

If you measure with Auto-EQ in multiple locations, then the the predicted response will never resemble the actual response. Auto-set-up systems like Audyssey function the same way.

You will get very good results with the smartphone mic. You will get even better results with the external Auto-EQ mic. So if you are looking to maximize accuracy, then get the Auto-EQ external mic.
