SVS SB-2000 Pro vs SB-3000 Subwoofer Review

Hi!
I received my brand new SVS SB3000 a couple of days ago.
While testing frequencies below 35 Hz, I can clearly hear a strange vibrations from the driver itself. I just went to the floor with my ear near to the driver and it seems the vibrations/rattlings come from the middle of the driver (where there is the SVS logo).
Please have a look at this video.
Do you thinks my driver could be damaged?

I'm already in contact with SVS official support, but, of course, weekend slows down communication :)

The sad thing is that I found a couple of videos on YouTube about the same problem on the same model:

  1. and
Even with a replacement for two different users, the problem was not solved
  2. This user needed three replacement before getting a working one
BTW, SVS Director of engineering to me NEVER to test their speakers using constant test tones as that runs the very high risk of burning the voice coil, as I did on my first SVS SB4000 sample. I kept running tones in the 10 to 30Hz range to 'feel' the bass. Afterward it just stopped working after a while...and this was on a new subwoofer. Thankfully, they quickly exchanged it with a new one with no issues.

I would be very scared of a subwoofer that, at a very low volume, will burn his voice coil with 30 seconds of 20 Hz tone :(

He didn't state any SPL but did mention wanting to

I don't image you can begin to "feel" the bass at 10hz at quiet levels.

Hi,
just wanted to update you: Scott Miller reached out to me and, with the official Italian supplier, they arranged a free return shipment and sent me a new SB3000.
I received it a couple of hours ago, but the "strange vibration" is still there.
Am I unlucky or is a design flaw?

The deep bass was loud in my small one-bedroom apartment. The volume knob was set higher at the lowest frequencies because I couldn't hear or feel them enough at normal levels. Maybe a temperature-based self-protection circuit (not an infra-sonic filter!) could have resolved this issue.

Sure, maybe, I don't know.
I've had a pair of SB-2000's for a few years now with zero problems.
SVS isn't known for producing/selling cheap drivers but anything can be over-stressed.
As the SVS engineer told you, running a constant tone at 10-30hz into the driver at high
levels can definitely create a voice coil temp issue. Thermal protection might avoid an
issue but at what cost to the buyer ? The bean counters have to consider everything. ;)

Hello.
I just registered to write that i just bought a Sb-1000 pro and it has the same high pitch sound.
It's frequency and amplitude varies between 2kz and ans 800 hz(very rough estimation using my ears) according to the load on usb port.
Since i have some knowledge in electronics field i can conclude that this is a problem with the usb port or 5 volt bus buck converter design, putting a load on the port up to the maximum allowed(150mA) makes the sound dissapear completely, i used a 0.5W resistor and an usb plug for the fix.
If using "SoundPath Bluetooth Adapter " the noise will still be audible but fainter.
Any clues what could be done to svs sb2000 to make hiss disappear,it does not have USB port.

Just bought the sb3000 after an unending amount of research and reading. I got a used one on eBay for $500 glossy black, hoping it has no hiss and will do what most reviewers have put out there.

I have the pb16ultra in my home theater(ish) and while movies are unbelievably good, it feels a little sloppy in a lot of music. In my living room im trying to setup a 2.1 that really sounds great, so my hopes are up. While I do love really deep bass, this system im focusing in tight detailed and clear control and at pretty moderate levels.

I do find it hilarious that so many reviews the SB 3000 with home theater in mind and keeps referring back to this and that ported sub for comparison.

I'm also looking for an AVR or maybe even just a two-channel stereo amp from music listening as the new x1700 I originally bought for my bedroom is now serving in my music listening space and I am underwhelmed and unimpressed and on top of that the Odyssey XT compared to Dirac is terrible.

I have used that software in my bedroom living room and with many different speakers and subwoofers and not once have I been able to make it sound decent.

Even with going through all the settings and making sure everything is solid that audio correction is just terrible through and through in my experience.

A1 Neuron from @OCA is free and gives much better results than Audyssey. Some say it is on par with or even outperforms Dirac. You may want to give it a try on your x1700.

I have a SB-3000 in my bedroom Home Theater(4*4*2.5, meters), and I'm planning to buy a SB-2000 Pro for more even low frequency experience. Will a SB-3000 and a SB-2000 Pro match well?

My AVR is Denon X3800H, and I will use Dirac Bass Control to match them.

Using Dirac the two subs should blend seamlessly.

I'm currently using a sb 3000 in my 10.5ft wide room by 23ft ish long room, main listening room is 10.5ft wide by 14ft long with mlp at 7ft away. At the back is a small open plan kitchen which is 9ft long by 6ft wide. Happy with the output but the localisation of the sub at any given frequency bothers me. Because of this I had to ignore its best sounding position with rew/mic and put it as close to the tv as I could (pretty much under it). Would moving down to 2 sb 1000 pro be acceptable in order to improve the localisation issues? I know the output won't be close but I'm in a flat anyway and I cant get another sb/2000 or sb 3000 in but I can easily fit 2 1000 pros. I normally listen at -24db on the sub anyway.

Maybe a better/different app doing the crossover-DRC would improve the localization issue?
Personally I'd hate to give up the deep bass response.

BTW, Hair is greatly overrated. ;)

I totally don't miss my hair

I have tried pretty much everything I can think of but all the way down to about 30hz and its pretty easy for me to tell the location of the sub. The only thing left to do would be buy dirac but that could just be money towards another sub instead, these drc things can't work magic.
Don't want to risk selling mine only to be further disappointed, I did originally have a sb1000pro but moved to the 3000 because I had the same issue and thought a bigger sub would solve it lol then I started looking into and realised I probably needed 2.

What DRC system are you using now?

Just xt32, tried some of the free ones like a1 evo and a few others he did but xt32 just sounded better.
That's what I use here, along with the $20 Editor app and then measure with REW and tweak a bit.
I have 2 SB2000's with one just about 2ft to the right of the MLP and it's isn't localized?
So then I would guess you've measured the results with REW to see what's happening.
