SVS PB-3000 vs JTR Captivator RS1

Researching and getting data now for possible future upgrade.

I currently have 3 SVS PB-3000’s and one SVS PC-13 ultra (800w amp). My theater is in a real world environment that is approx. 7400 cu-ft open via hallway to the other 2/3rds of the house.

I have had Rythmik FV15HP set up next to the PB-3000 and it was just a hair too large to give you all an idea of acceptable limits. PC-13 although large and unsightly goes unseen behind TV.

Currently I am Mostly satisfied with the subs. I have tuned all 4 subs to work together and work with other 5 speakers (revel F208, C208 and S206) via REW. This is a 99% movies setup. WAF is a factor thus captivator RS1 and not Captivator 2400. When playing demos at MY ref levels (maybe 3 clicks louder the normal movie viewing levels), subs are probably near 95% of controlled max output (max being level observed via compression tests). I would like a bit more headroom, a tad more low end extension (14ish hz) and a bit more mid bass (think John Wick). My concern is that 3 RS1's (if paired with PC-13ultra) or 4 Cap RS1’s will not equal or may only be marginally better for my desires and application compared to current setup due to ported vs sealed subs used for movies.

Below are my last REW sweeps and in room response currently at MLP (main listening position) which is 122” (ears) from TV. Room specs are Width 23’ 7”, length 35’ 8”, Height 8’ - 10’ 5” at vault ceiling peak. (approx. 7400 cu-ft) OPEN to the other 2/3rds of house via hallway.

REW -8db

New miniDSP settings

PEQ1 52hz -2db 3Q

PEQ2 33hz 2db 3Q

PEQ3 41hz 3db 1Q

Only center sub inverted. Only RR sub delay of 3

Xover 17hz BW 48db 88hz LR 48db

Full sweep. 79-93db, 14db extreme spread.

Below, ALL subs AND all 5 speakers.

All sub sweep. 9db extreme spread. Really low around 34 and 85hz.

Just subs, compression test. Started at -14 vol and next was -9. Reason for that large spacing. Increase of 3 vol on AVM60 between sweeps.

So, in all honesty, would it be worth it in regards to bass output/quality to reduce hypothesized headroom from 95% to say 55%ish and achieve usable 14ish or less hz? Please state if you have had ACTUAL experience with these subs or damn near similar and not just looking at specs and assuming/hypothesizing.

Thanks.

Your center speakers is above the TV?
*shocked pikachu face*

Also, JTR RS1 is a sealed sub, while PSA EV1813 is a ported sub, so not exactly apples to apples. Both 18" drivers though.
What kind of feedback did you get from another forum?

Nothing wrong with having the center above TV at that distance, but the left and right speakers are too close to each other with that listening distance.

It was AVS forum. Original post with feedback below. Basically, as bad ass as the JTR RS1 is, its sealed and would not be much of an upgrade at all getting 4 of them to replace my 3 PB-3000's and 1 PC-13ultra. Also, my living room being approx. 74--cu-ft and open to rest of house, the RS1 would not be able to hang with current subs, sub 25hz due to PB/PC tuning.

Yep, I built a special shelf so that it is hovering over TV by just 1/32". The center channel is also inverted so tweeter is closest to TV.

I dont have much of a choice with L/R speakers. I pulled the entire rig fwd about 1 year ago allowing me to spread speakers from 69" tweeter to tweeter to now 77". Large window has a view so I dont want to block that. Again, this is a real world living space and I am grateful that my wife supports me to let me have done what I have done so far.

That's why it's always good to have the house in your name so you can do what you want.

That level of bass performance is outside my level of knowledge. I would however suggest about adding something like the Rotary Sub from Eminent Technology, to the current mix of subwoofers. Or a pair of Captivator .
