Superman 2025 Movie - worst ever!

Funny how we see things. I grew up with the original Superman TV series and loved it.
But I could never get next to Batman and what I saw as the silly "boom, bang, pow" captions of the fights, etc; mostly never watched it.

I haven't seen it either but the box office reviews are still a very strong 4 stars, near 8 of 10 Rotten Tomatoes
So a lot of folks are really enjoying it.
superman 2025 reviews
The second and subsequent week box office is more indicative with something like this. You really need an unlikable lead actor or actress to kill first week box office or the obvious goring of a contemporary sacred cow. I also wouldn't look these day to media critics to validate a film. They're just as afraid of speaking their actual opinions as many of the actors are.

As for enjoyment: some people like head cheese and lutefisk and think Spañada was fine wine. Chacun...

I have yet to see a good Superman movie (solo), and still have hopes but past performance is generally somewhat indicative of the future performance, although oddballs are always possible.

I chose to watch a live band in concert instead.
Me too, but movie ticket prices are $6 on Tues and $10 most other times.
When was the last time you saw a concert for that kind of money. LOL

The movie was meh, it had some good scenes then it had other "scenes". The movie stayed true (somewhat) to the characters(felt like some of the budget went to waste with how little some of the actor's appeared). There was a problem at the very start. Where is the origin story? Who care's if people know the story, a lot of people don't then those who do. Plus if you want grow your own version of the MCU then you need to start at the bottom and not skip 3 years into the story like what? Again, a lot of people don't know any of these people and you're expecting them to watch solo films who also wont have their backstory told. All you did was just brush over superman backstory with some text and a national graphics montage. Just show something, a small recap or something. You know what you could've showed? The childhood scenes at the end of the movie, show that first!! The word play you did, was clever, but you should've matched the timestamp from the beginning to the current momment. also u lied. It said in 3 years, superman lost for the first time. Are we sure? The same superman who was losing against everybody?? That superman just lost in 3 years? Who the hell was he fighting before this?? Just regular humans?? in 3 years just humans???. There hasn't been any kind of bad metahuman in 3 years???? The government was that fast to snatch those people up and give them to Lex?? Also what's up with the crowd not giving a flying care about anything. Dinosaur appears, people are not even running until it the creature is defeated. The city cracking plot was something and not even worth going down that rabbit hole. Was the Movie Enjoyment? not really. Would I recommend it, Sure. It's superman after all. If Mr. Gunn Wants his own "DCU" then he needs to get rid of his "yes" people. I felt like he could've done so much better compared to his previous films. This movie was just filled with reference to other superman movies and the world legal system It not too late to show Supe's BG, whenever you introduce Zod. Just show superman ship leaving around the same time and give a small recap at the very least.

If I was a superhero...

1. I would not remotely feel compelled to wear a tight lycra Lululemon outfit on my superhero assignments, and capes would be totally out of question.

2. I'd not blindly fly into traps, I'd do some homework beforehand.

3. I'd consider filing for mental disability if I ever thought putting a suit and glasses on utterly disguises my identity.

4. I'd ditch Lois Lane or recommend she visits an eye doctor very urgently. She's either stupid or blind.

The new story line that Superman's natural parents sent him to Earth to conquer the World goes against every previous storyline. The fact that anyone believed this crazy translation from Lexx Luther including Superman himself is unrealistic and a fatal flaw in the 2025 film. Superman was never that weak minded. This plot twist feels inconsistent and forced, especially when the character suddenly accepts such a dark reinterpretation without much internal conflict.

In addition, I have never seen an earlier Superman version where the director intentionally went out of their way to make Clark's adopted parents look so unkept. Making them look like prime candidates for Ozempic and dressing them down for a homeless-like look adds nothing to the movie. Making them appear like they never owned a mirror runs counter to most depictions. It comes off as jarring and out of character for viewers familiar with classic Martha and Jonathan Kent portrayals.

The 2025 version takes so many abusive liberties with the basic Superman characters and themes that it becomes a useless, dark parody.

In this silly movie, Superman is portrayed as a weak flying hero whose bones can be broken and he can easily lose fights.
In DC Comics and past movies: Nothing beats Superman, that's the entire character attraction. You can't x-ray him and find damaged body parts. In this film, Superman is continually being hurt and beat up.

I agree. When they do a biopic they need to stick to the facts.

In the comics there is a wide range of takes on Superman, both in the mainstream continuity and told through alternate histories.

It seems to me that many people in this thread are basing their thoughts on previously released film and TV (not including the various DC animated adaptations like "Red Son" and "Injustice"), which follows its own sort of internal continuity.

To me this is the most comic book like Superman we've had on screen to date. It was a fun movie and I thought the allegory of the values instilled through his adopted family and home taking precedence over his birth land and family a good one.

It was not great cinema, Donner's original remains safe as the only Superman film in my physical media collection, but as throwaway entertainment, I was entertained - far more so than Man of Steel.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Gunn's DCU.

In my opinion, I always think that a 'review' should be compared to something you either prefer or dislike, making your statement that more meaningful.
For example, I do not like Prometheus because character interaction and development is no where near the level of Alien from -79.
So even though CGI and effects are pumped up to max, you just feel like you're eating only the chili and not - let's say - chili con carne.

My 2 cents,

It was a (too) goofy version of Superman to me, Superman is not supposed to be goofy, at least not this much, you really see this Superman fighting Darkseid?.

James Gunn made 3 very good Guardians of the Galaxy movies, credit where credit is due, but guess what... they were supposed to be corny, it has a talking, gun slinging bad ass
Raccoon and a walking tree, LOL

The first 2 were awesome, #3 meh,
JMHO

The Superman movie feels like a product of AI slop. I am baffled by the low quality that the movie exhibits. Maybe it is an experiment, a reverse Turing test predicating the audience's predilection to unintelligent content? "Superslop - The Movie" or "Slopperman - The Man of Slop"

This is not what Superman is about. Don't think you ever read a single Superman comic in your life.

This is not what Superman is about.

Narrator: Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
Man 1: Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird.
Woman: It's a plane.
Man 2: It's Superman!
Narrator: Yes, it's Superman, strange visitor from another planet who came to earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman, who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands. And who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way. And now another exciting episode in the adventures of Superman.

Perhaps I should have said a comic from the past several decades, because his strength has never been the most important theme in all his best comics for at least several decades by now.

It's like it's now more fun too see a review, rather than the actual movie
This guy is the definition of media illiteracy (lets not got started on his thinly veiled racism, homophobia and misogyny).
