Hi all!
So we move last July, and we just finished painting the “main living room”. Up until this point, in the media/ home theater room, I was running a criton 1td as left and right channel and a 2td as a center channel. (And some éminence alpha 4 for surrounds)
After painting the living room, I took the speaker out of the media room and showed to my wife how it would look in the main living room. Now she wants to have the CSS audio speaker in the main living room, leaving me empty handed in the home theater.
(I know, left channel isn’t in the picture, it’s was only for showing the wife in the main living room)
I’m looking for recommandation for bed layer speaker.
I’ll be, when I can, up mixing to auro 3d format, or even 2D auro (standard 5.1).
All the channel will be powered by a xenon 6700
Tv is 55inch, viewing distance is 6-7 foot from the tv.
Room is 16 wide x 10 deep.
Bass is handled by two 15 inch. (Might add a 21 inch in the future)
Budget, I’d say, 200$ CAD/ speaker. I can stretch it to 300/ speaker, if it offers SO MUCH better speakers.
Up until today, I got for suggestion, the following:
Solen mura 5b:
199$ CAD/ pair
Solen is like 30min drive from my house.
solen.ca
Mechano 23 (from here)
288 CAD per pair
From a quick google search, finding the tweeter will be a challenge.

MTG VBS10
150$ USD per speaker (which is in the expansive side. 432 CAD / pair before shipping depending on where i source the component.

I checked CSS, and found the torii, which seems to have pretty good reviews
279 usd (~400 cad / pair before shipping without flat packs) (shipping is 70$ for 3 pairs kit)
I like toid’s form factor / design wise on his cinema 6 v1 and v2, but plans are “discontinued”. Maybe the cinema 10’s, they seem to have pretty good reviews too.
So yeah, if you have others suggestion, I’m all ears.
I even checked in DIYsound group, but everything seems to be out of stock every time I check.

Mechano23 Open-source DIY Speaker Review
This is a review, listening tests and detailed measurements of the "Mechano23" open-source DIY speaker. A pair was kindly sent to me by the member. You can read more about it here. Baltic birch cabinet seems quite solid and well above what you get commercially. I was surprised to see a...
