Hello, I am looking to upgrade my subwoofer ( currently a polk psw10) and currently looking for suggestions/ recommendations . I am willing to spend or stay around $1500 ~ 2000 and the usage is mostly 60% movies-40% Music .

My current setup are the Sonus Faber Sonetto II bookshelf speakers, b&w htm62 s2 center and the denon x3800h AVR.

I am currently looking at the Dynaudio 18s and wonder would it be a good choice, in comparison to others froms SVS or REL as they are the only brands that are available in my local area.

Room size is quite small (15*15 feet).

Many thanks.

svs sb 2000 plenty of deep clean powerful bass and for that size room it should be great works for both movies and music

I am using an SVS 3000 micro in a similarly sized room. Very happy with it in particular because I can make adjustments to the sub from the listening position using my phone.

Take a look at the Tonewinner subs... great bang for buck. They are OEM's for some SVS, Monoprice and Emotiva models.

I hesitate to suggest this, but have you considered adding that budget towards an upgrade of your main speakers? Your present ones are no doubt very nice but they are far from full-range. Perhaps your could think about selling them and their stands and replacing with much more bass-capable speakers, perhaps of the same brand if you like their presentation. Less loss of floor space and no extra enclosures, amps, or cables to pay for. All the extra $2K can go towards better basic speaker parts, rather than more boxes, etc.

I was recently persuaded to buy 2 x £3K subs (REL S812), but frankly it's a poor way to spend that money, because my main speakers are well capable of good rounded bass that's deep enough for everything I listen to. I am still trying to get more out of them, but so far, very little. I'm likely to be selling them soon as that money would better go towards improvements elsewhere. Good luck anyway.

Hi

Will say the same things as in other threads. Subwoofers are required in most situations, even if the mains have good bass extensions.
Repeating, almost everyone needs subwoofers.
For the budget, 2000, I would suggest to acquire:

2 x subwoofers. Use @sweetchaos 's Sweetchaos' subwoofer List [Click here] , $1600.
1 x Audyssey MultEQX software about $200
1 x UMik-1 , yes another microphone, you need to measure to "see"/confirm what your result are or would be... $120
Download REW for free.

Research, read, learn, ask questions here. Your system shall sound better. It will not be an automatic. plugf and play. You must invest (lot of time) into this, but the results are worth it.

Peace.

I have a Dynaudio 18s in a similar sized room and I'm very happy with it. It has no problem getting down to 20Hz:

If you listen to movies at high volume, and have the space, get a pair of Klipsch RP-1600SW for $899 each through this Adorama link: www.adorama.com/kp1070652.html?sdtid=17597148&emailPrice=t. That's currently the unambiguous price/performance leader. Now, that's a *lot* of bass, and if you don't need to bass to be completely "epic" then a pair of smaller subs will be less intrusive and also help to deal with room modes (i.e. nulls in the base caused by the room/sub position interaction which can be solved by having a second sub in a different spot). Yeah, you can get just one sub, but don't. In that price range you won't have the headroom to deal with the room modes properly unless you listen at relatively low volumes. For your smaller sub option, get a pair of the RSL Speedwoofer 10S direct from RSL. You already have an AVR-X3800R, so you've already got Audyssey XT32. Its default might be enough for you, but if not, you can pay $20 to see what it's done and make some minor tweaks. If you still want more, as recommended, spring for $200 for the PC app.

If you insist on not mail ordering, SVS will be fine, and the best value. REL tends to test poorly. The Dynaudio I can't imagine is anywhere close to SVS in value or performance, but haven't really checked. (Nope, no measurements, so no idea, but I don't it's that great.) As for which SVS to get, it really depends just how nuts you want to go and how much bass you want. Use the spreadsheet as recommended. For two subs together, add 6dB to compare vs a single sub. Finally, if you aren't going to run the bass 6dB "hot" on movies and listen at reference levels, a pair of PB-1000 will be more than enough. You could probably even get away with a pair of SB-2000s if you're size conscious. I recommend you don't do that though. Get the most bass at 15Hz and 20Hz you can afford, and run it hot... :)

Before you shell out for the $200 PC app, you have to try @OCA free open source calibration script

If you're completely set on spending that much money, I would wait for one of SVS's seasonal discontinued item sales and pick up 2 or 4 of something. Sealed models should work fine in your small room.

+1 for SVS. Their app is awesome to adjust and PEQ from the listening position. Just get an SB2000 Pro or SB3000 and you are set.

I should add, if you've just been using regular audyssey to calibrate your system, you should try A1 Evo even before you buy anything. All you need is the $20 phone app from Denon.
