Subwoofer Options - <$800 - Small/Medium Room

Ok I'll try the Revel

At that price can't go wrong it seems. Has EQ like the SVS. Maybe can avoid any room correction.

Getting another one at that price may be an issue....But will figure that out later

edit - and he's not very far if I for whatever reason have to return won't be crazy

edit 2 - yeah yeah yeah 2 subs but guys I don't know what I'm doing, i need to keep it simple.

Just be aware that it's a single band of EQ. Even that isn't of any use if you aren't able to do measurements, and you'll only be able to dial out a single peak of course. Still better than nothing, if you can do so.

That part i get. I'm going to try this REW first i wasn't aware that was an option with a free tier. Go from there. Just need to get the mic

I may be able to get it out my ears are good I'm just not sure what I"m hearing means....Just trial and error

OK, time for a contrary opinon on two subs:

If you have a single listening position that you care about, one sub is enough. The main advantage of more than one sub is ability to get smoother bass at more than one listening position. (The other advantage is greater power if you are playing insanely loud).

I would spend my money (and did spend my money!) on electronics that allow high-pass filetering of the main speakers and provide room EQ before adding a second sub.

Yes, I agree. Two subs is swell and all, but electronics that allow for proper bass management and room correction are priority uno (besides having one good sub in the first place, of course).

OK seems like there are two obvious options here

SVS - Single sub, get the EQ

Speedwoofer - Get two of their smaller subs, for better coverage, no EQ

I'll talk to speedwoofer and go from there. SVS winning right now because they have stock
The eq on a sub is more a last resort, you don't have better eq for subs in your system?

I agree with EQ on a sub not necessary. Although the remote on my RSL12s is nice for on the fly adjustment. I don’t miss it too much on my main system with my JTR sub.

I can't think of the last time I changed my sub levels due to any particular content. Once set well, no need.

I can see people using the EQ bands and room correction in a SVS sub to then have their EQ bands downstream available to work above 80/100hz only. And/or split REW measurement into sub only and then the rest only.

I have an AVR i would have to move

Or can use windows to provide some sort of EQ via software. My budget has gotten a bit out of control so now my setup is a bit lopsided

Yeah I'm confused on how i filter exactly, and what the consequences for not filtering are

Other than that I think in theory i have all the necessary components for good stereo sound.

You cannot EQ your way out of a physical null, and a second subwoofer is one of the most effective ways to solve this—even for a single listening seat.

A smoother "raw" response makes EQing easier.

If you add Dirac it should take care of all aspects.

A bit offtopic from the subwoofers. But the Aiyima is obviously a capable DAC and amp. But offers no room correction or PEQ?

Maybe too much to ask for the price, which is really low for the DAC hardware, TPA amp and PFFB.

If it has PEQ you could do room correction on your own with REW. If not you could add a WiiM and connect it via usb or optical to leverage RoomFit (and many other things). That's very straightforward and gives good results.

Wouldn't Dirac on PC confine playing anything to the PC? Sounds very unflexible. Even if you currently have no other sources with the Aiyima.

To my knowledge and scanning the documentation, no. I vaguely recall comparing it with a competing Wii product and deciding that the money was not worth the extra functionality because it was a gift. I was asked what I wanted. And I did not plan to for my budget to be so high. So now in a relative sense I've underspecced that component. Seemed rational at the time....

I'm not exactly sure how the DIRAC software works so I'm not 100% how limiting it will be. Everything but 4k streaming goes through a windows device anyway in my house.

I could also just swap out the Aiyima for a WiiM or something else. I will try the DIRAC trial. See how it goes. Then make a call from there i guess.

edit - sometimes i do stream with spotify over a phone but I can use a W11 device for that

SVS SB3000 Micro R, very musical, very compact, sealed dual woofer enclosure ideal for small rooms and music systems IMO. Great DSP and app, too.

? need to move an avr ? What avr? Connecting a computer can be problematic IMO but depends on gear.

he was just saying the problem with W11 EQ is i'm stuck with that as a source. I think

My obviuos alternative is an AVR i could use for EQ*. But I'll stick with the windows device

AVRs can be a lot easier for this. Some other gear, but am a laptop user so this sort of setup is not even something I'd ever consider for a pc (and even with a desktop you have to have the right gear/connections available).

We're getting off topic. I think i should not have mentioned the AVR lol. My video set up is top tier. You'd have to spent many thousands to beat my MadVR set up. I have a lot of compute laying around.

His only point was if you use a W11 device for EQ, the only source you can use is that device. Which is why he called it "limited"

This is not a problem for me relative to most people because everything I do is on Windows for the most part.
