Hi all,
Small feedback on the Monoprice 10in Powered Studio subwoofer. Right out of the box, I got a good impression. The finish considering the price is excellent, no apparent cosmetic defect.
After several attempts to adjust, I set the volume between -26 to -24db. The lowest is -30db. The reason I have to attenuate so low is that the preamplifier is a gainless buffer that feeds the 2 stereo amps for the speakers. I adjusted the cutoff frequency to around 60hz.
The first listenings with jazz which has good bass I liked straight away. Then I switched to classical music. With small ensembles, chamber music, trio or solo piano style for example, we can more easily detect whether the bass goes well with the speakers. And it is, I am pleasantly surprised.
I consider that I made a good choice. So yes it is quite musical and if we adjust it correctly with quality speakers, you will also agree with me. An excellent listening test would be to put it with small bookshelf style studio monitors, because it is designed for that with these XLR and 1/4 "outputs. Please note it does not have an LFE input to connect with an amplifier CM. In addition it has a 1/4 "jack for connecting a pedal (Fender at $ 25 on Amazon or other) which allows you to deactivate the sub and send all the bass to the monitoring monitors, it is convenient in a small studio to check its mix without the sub, in my case it doesn't help me, but I wanted to mention it.
The subwoofer has a 200w RMS class AB amplifier. Haven't tested with super high volume yet, let's say I didn't buy it for that.
