Hello, i am thinking of adding a subwoofer to my Genelec 8030.

a. What about using one from another brand, like Adam sub8.
Need to pay attention to a specific characteristic ?

b. Are bass traps necessery ; i won't use it for mixing.

c. Any other suggestion in the same price range ?

a) Using a different brand would be fine
b) so what will you use it for? Regular listening? Either way, no bass trap necessary, but some kind of EQ possibility would likely be beneficial.
c) nope :)

For what it is worth, I have the SVS SB1000 with Genelec 8040s and am happy. I do use the 80hz xover in the SVS to roll off the bass energy into the Genelecs as the Genelecs would occasionally sound hurt from heavy bass content when run full range. Having the SVS handle all the bass below 80hz has improved the dynamic range of the system so no more ouches from deep and loud bass. Smooth, tight, bass down to about 25hz. Sonarworks room-correction and EQ rounds out the sound!
