Subwoofers with two RCA inputs: do you need both if only sending a mono signal? Do you need to use a splitter cable if only sending one cable? Or, is sending two cables better, even if mono? How does the sub know what to do with half the total expected signal if only sending one cable?

Right now I’m sending a pair to each sub, am I doing it wrong to use two cables carrying the same signal?

I just read about using a y splitter cable being the right way, is that better than just running two cables?

I can't tell the difference if im using 1 or 2 cables.
Just ordered a 2nd sub and trigger splitter.

My wiim ultra only has 1 sub out, so going to split it.

They often have one input labelled LFE for use with AVR or 2.1 use like the Wiim's sub out.

Splitting usually isn't necessary unless the subwoofer's amplifier has very low input sensitivity. In that case you are making use of the summing amplifier to add the two split signals together, for about +6dB gain. Normally, just hook up either one or two inputs and then use the level control to set the level of the subwoofer's output to whatever you need. You aren't 'missing out' on anything if you don't split the mono signal and route it to both input RCAs.

Some (not many) subs can be "Daisy Chained" together and that would be mono.
Check the manual or check with the manufacturer.
