So you're saying they don't have enough output for you?Very big room

Yes but 18" is two more than the requested 16" width. That extra width opens up 15" options like that ULS that ought to actually get more SPL for sure though.HSU ULS-15 MK2?
It's an 18" cube and is like having two VTF-2's.

Looking to upgrade my old Monoprice m-12s subs, but I'm space constrained. Can anyone suggest a worthwhile upgrade that's <=16" in width? The only one I've found is the Rel 212sx, which certainly looks nice but I think we all agree is pretty low on the price: performance ratio. I know the sb3000 comes very close but not confident it's enough of an upgrade to justify the hassle (12in 500w vs 13" 800w), plus those old SVS grilles border on nauseating to look at.
Somehow it didn't occur to me to look at models that stack multiple drivers vertically.
The Monoprice M-12 V2 is a shade under 17", not sure if you can squeeze that in. Rythmik's FVX12 is 17", so is Klipsch's RP-1200SW, if the M-12 would fit perhaps those could as well. There's also the SVS PB-2000 Pro at a hair over 17", not sure if you have enough wiggle room to accommodate any of those.Looking to upgrade my old Monoprice m-12s subs, but I'm space constrained. I have some SVS subs and they are quiet. Are you sure your upstream electronics aren't causing the noise since you have the issue with multiple different subs? Try them disconnected from the rest of the system to test.Has anyone tested subwoofers for self-noise? I bought a Revel B112V2, Kef KC92, and a SVS SB 3000. They all exhibit some level of hiss (kind of like active speaker hiss) that is audible from the seating location in a quiet room 6-8 feet away. I think the Revel's were the quietest but were still were kind of annoying, they remind me of cheap multimedia speakers like the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1s which also had really loud hissing sound.
I wonder if I am just overly sensitive to powered speaker/sub hiss and need to find a passive sub that can be driven by a quiet A/B amp.

You must have a quiet room and good hearing as 25 dB is below the noise floor of most rooms. You probably need some passive subs with high quality quiet amps to be satisfied.Naw, they were noisy in Best Buy, and they sound the same at home. This has nothing to do with electronics, it's self-noise from the subs as there's nothing connected to them. I've owned multiple gens of SVS subs since the early 2000s and they've always been noisy at every house I've lived in. I was expecting more from KEF though. I was actually surprised Revel was the quietest given people have such low expectations of their subs. Most powered speakers/subs have some level of self-noise, for example we've got a thread of powered speaker noise measurements here at AVS and the average of Genelec speakers are around 25db, which is way higher than I can stomach. This is why I hate most powered devices, the factory installed amps are just too damn noisy.

Wow i was convinced i was being to picky because the s21m ipal makes audible and measurable noise at ~40dB.Yep, it's a very quiet room. Double paned windows. Everything little noise is annoying here lol. Also I've always had hearing sensitivity to higher frequency hissing noises, CRT TVs used to drive me crazy. This is probably why I can't stand powered speakers or subs for the most part, I can hear the sssss sound just cutting through the silence. Main reason I got rid of my Genelec 8341/8331 setup and went back to passive speakers.
