Figured it was time to upgrade my old Onkyo TX-414, so splurged and picked up a x4800h, and i'm really having issues getting it to perform.

Setup: x4800h, Fronts are JBL Studio 590s, Center is a Infinity RC263, BIC F12 sub

The only component that has changed was the AVR, and I cant wrap my head around why the set up so quiet. The new AVR is supposed to be 125w compared to the old 85w on the Onkyo, but the volume levels dont make sense. I have to listen to the Denon around -10 to -6 (maxed out) to even get any sort of meaningful output, where as on the Onkyo, I would be at around half volume.

I've run Audessy and DIRAC, no noticeable improvements to the situation. I've set the Ohms to 6 in the setup.

Does anyone have any ideas of what i'm missing?

Go thru all the settings and read the manual and it's trouble shooting guide.
Have you gone into the setting and set speaker output to 2.1?

Is there a "pre-amp" function in the EQ settings that is set to decrease gain? Note that if Audyssey or Dirac set this, it's probably to avoid clipping when the auto-EQ has applied significant frequency band boost.

Is there, in the setting, an options for doing a "Default Factory" settings?
Might help to clear an unknown issue.

Set the receiver for 8 ohm speakers. Then restart the receiver and verify it's set to 8 ohms. Now run Audyssey again using the App.

Have you maxed out the volume controls on the source(s) that are feeding a signal (video/audio)to the 4800X?
What are the sources?

The only device i currently have connected ( or ever had on the previous also ) is a Beelink SER-4800u PC running Kodi. This is directly connected via HDMI, and utilizing pass through audio, letting the AVR decode the audio stream. (so no real volume knob to speak of since it should be passing the raw stream)

let me research this.

I'll fire my old AVR up and see if i bumped the gain a few pts on the fronts, i know i did it to the center channel to boost it a bit to no get over powered by the fronts.

Am i missing something here? if i set it from 6ohms to 8ohms i'd expect it to get more quiet right?

I'm going to try to dig up an alternative media source device.

Yep, I would leave AVR setting at 8 ohms. Pretend you never saw that option. It's set at 8ohms by default for a reason. :)

Half of getting through life is trying not to outsmart yourself. :cool:
