Streamers. I don’t get it. Am I missing something?

The Eversolo units have a ‘loudness’ feature contemporary active speaker designs too can have a preset configured for late night/low level listening.
Makes complete sense.

What is a streamer for?

My music listening is almost entirely Amazon Music HD, for which I use the desktop app, and for the odd title not available there, I have my old (and extensive) CD collection ripped and in my NAS, which I play using WMP.

What advantage would a streamer bring? Is it purely so you don’t have to use a PC?
You can usually use an old phone on the network for a remote. If you get out of range the music keeps playing as last instructed. Not like Bluetooth. And you don't have to have a noise prone PC near your hifi. I did approximately what you did for 10 years. Then I tried the better way. If you are happy keep it to yourself.

Tempting, isn't it? Of course not.
Sounds pretty good to me, although I use the Dac in my Cary DMS 700
