I haven't seen some for a while but when hard waste month was a thing there were lots of speakers outside. Mostly cheaper stuff. Bose 901's that needed refoam. Worst sounding and build quality ever - some white van speakers. The real white van speakers, not just ultra budget speakers.

wow , white van are the worst ones

these speaker boxes i would imagine are car sub boxes

you used to be able to buy cheap boxes, some finished, some CKD flatpacks, some pre covered in marine carpet

you install your own cheapo 12" cone and a few bucks in terminals and a cheap car amp

ratchet the thing down in the trunk boot of your car.... ie. a Ford Mustang or a Citroen Saxo and you would 'doof' around town

but the wood absorbs water and the trunk of a car usually isnt the driest place in the world unless you live in arizona = time to chuck it sans woofer

^ i have cheap sub box behind projection screen with JBL GTO 12" fitted , not used it in many years its not connected to amp , i use other 18" JBL instead , but yes the boxes are cheap made MDF

yeah but here's the thing

i have THREE home subwoofers... 8 10 and 12" - the usual JBL home theater stuff and they last forever

like just leave it on and they auto start with my receiver - one has some coffee cup stains on the top and they probably have some cobwebs in the port

but since they're always inside they just work and i'm sure my son will inherit them - the same boy who stuck his entire arm inside the port and tried to grab some stuffing and maybe drop some hot wheels cars inside

I like this sort of thing as it draws attention to the other end of life cycle of the objects of desire in our consumerist hobby. I started a similar thread a short while back.

Its good to see speakers/cabinets being returned to the wild, especially car subwoofer cabinets, we rail against the obscene nature of factory farming where cows are permanently kept inside year round or pigs kept in tiny pens, imagine being a car subwoofer kept in the dark for your entire life, occasionally glimpsing the outside world when the boot is opened and shopping/boxes thrown against you.

Free the cabinets!

In my area the only thing being re-introduced to the natural environment are dirty old mattresses.

These are becoming a common sight, so it's possible that enough have been released to create a breeding population.

Lived here 30 odd years and never seen any hi-fi equipment put out on the kerb. Some broken tellies, that's about the best you'll do.

A pal of mine who lives in a salubrious area of London often finds fairly valuable antiques dumped out on the street.

Ironically in my area I notice a lot of stray sneakers. I always wonder the sequence of events that causes someone to lose a shoe mid-journey and just keep going.
