I've noticed this occurring more and more frequently these past few weeks.

A new ASR member creates their first or second thread to get help with something, I see it, post my reply, and a minute later the thread is gone. Sometimes it reappears, other times not.

And it's never anything controversial either, just normal stuff..

Edit: for example, here's a PM I got from a member after they saw my reply to them, wanted to respond, but found their thread deleted:

To further investigate we need to know usernames and Thread titles. This can happen if a new member starts a thread and then later decides to delete their 1st post. It takes the thread with it. Could also be related to the Mods moving threads and merging them with existing threads.

In your above picture I can’t see the username and therefore can’t provide any info as to what might have happened.

Update: I found the Thread I think you are referring to and restored it. As a new member his first bunch of posts have to go through the approval Queue. When I reviewed this post I got a warning about the attachment he used. Took a closer look and restored the post and image. Apologies for the inconvenience.

The same thing happened to this thread iirc.
I don’t see any problem with that thread and it is currently open and 2 pages long. Can you elaborate on what is wrong with it please?

Thank you for looking into this, @AdamG247!

The same thing happened to this thread iirc.

For that one, the OP made over a dozen edits to the original (approved) post, each of which caused the thread to disappear until the edit was approved, then another edit, it disappears... Etc.

The other reason a thread will disappear, is when a more determined troll consistently makes new accounts to get around bans. They are smart enough to be mostly benign at first, but are just getting post counts high enough to slip through the early filters so they can inevitably get back to their somewhat neurotic agenda.

In that case, we delete every post that account has in it's history, to try to disincentivise these few determined clowns.

There are a lot of people with bad intentions towards this place.

@BDWoody , you said a mouthful!

It seems some people would rather spend days tearing something down than one minute building something up. :(

Adam and I often share a chuckle at just how pathetic it gets sometimes.

While we aren't infallible, (at least Adam isn't for sure ;)) the pattern recognition gets easier. I picked off another repeat trollstomer with his 14th puppet earlier today after looking into a report.

Each time you edit your original post, it will disappear until it is again approved.

Please just add new posts to the thread! ;)

Your lost thread is right here. It was simply awaiting Mod approval (as Brad just described) since your a new member (low post count). It a process to protect from SpamBots.

How can that be? All our trolls have an impressive list of advanced degrees. I'm sure they're busy men

What agenda do they have? What is their motivation? Selling viagra?

Some just drop hidden links in posts that have some value to someone. Many are gambling and sex sites. Most are harmless but annoying. It’s the hidden few that never post but work in the background using PM’s to Con our members that they know a guy at so and so email address that has 5 of the things you’re looking to purchase and he is practically giving them away. Some sleeper accounts seem to do nothing? As harmless as this sounds. It’s part of our job to clean this stuff out when we find it.

What Adam said, plus the handful that believe coming back over and over to tell us how wrong we all are is a good way to spend their time.
