Hi everyone,

this evening I reconnected the Martin Logan Quest and as always I had difficulties.

Used in monowiring they sound decent, although perhaps the panels should be cleaned, I almost never use them.

Used in bi-wiring, moved the rear selector, one of the two speakers sounds lower.

So I decided to open the rear compartment that houses the crossovers inside to take a look. Some capacitors evidently swollen or something like that.

However, I noticed one thing: the two crossovers are different.
On the one that sounds less loud and seems more "muddy" a wire is missing.

Are you familiar with these speakers, do you happen to know the diagrams. Is that missing wire necessary?
Thanks to anyone who wants to answer me!

the one that sounds less loud and good

arrows and lines indicate the cable that is instead on the one that sounds better

By the marking that's natural, that's a music sense connection, you don't need two of them.

Not necessarily.

Music sense may be (just guessing) a function to reduce the panel bias voltage when no music is playing to prolong the life of the speaker. The speaker may still "work" but not well.

I would definitely investigate further.

The OP has already described one speaker is not performing as well as the other.

@RayDunzl I think has a pair of MLs of some sort- he may have some info.

Yes,coming to think of it there should be in both since there's no interlink between them even if it was the way I thought it would be.

hello guys, thanks to everyone for the attention!!!
I don't know who did this work, an idiot, always looking carefully on that board, the red cable was attached to the wrong socket. Luckily I saw a photo on the web. Also as if on purpose it was written "Pos" in marker. I added that missing cable, and exchanged the connector and ..... they sound!!! like never before!!!

Since they had been standing still for years, every time I attacked them they were terrible, to close the intervention, following the repair performed, I treated the furniture with wood oil, cleaned all the surfaces well and passed the light vacuum cleaner on the grids.
Then a dust-catching cloth always on the grids.
I would say that they sound good, apart from the difficulty of finding an ideal position in the room ....
I followed the advice from the manual on the ML site but I have to "play" with them a bit more.
However interesting, a type of speaker with a different sound from the others that I have therefore still to discover.

I'm happy about the renovation work and finally to have also these speakers to "play" with too!!!
