The fundamental problem with subscriptions is that they often come with strings attached -hidden conditions, deadlines, gradual price hikes, and even ads in paid plans. They frequently start off small to lure in customers, like promoting their own shows (looking at you, Disney+).At the $7-8/mo level that might actually entice me to sign up. Of course, after the inevitable price hikes result in it being $20+/mo, I might change my mind.

Take HBO Max, for example, with their "lifetime 50% off" deal. Just a year and a half later, they rebranded the service and introduced new tiers. The plan you originally signed up for is now downgraded, while the tier above it offers the features you initially paid for, like 4K streaming. You’re left with two choices: stick to your discounted rate but accept a diminished experience, or pay more to get back what you originally signed up for.
Or, as many have sadly already reverted to doing -setting black sail on the digital high seas once more.
I typically subscribe to one service at a time. Consume the content on that service I am interested in, then swap to a different service. Rinse and repeat.Every single goddamn thing has gone to a subscription model now. It sucks.
Yeah, that's why I'm going back to buying the movies and shows I want to watch on physical media (though that may not be an actual option for much longer). For Youtube... digital high seas it is I suppose once Google starts screwing around.
