A periodic reminder of what a garbage, baggage-laden term “objectivist” is.

It might even be on par with a reviewer taking a dump all over the middle of a Genelec monitor review with twaddle about wires.

A couple of years ago I bought a projector and did some searching online to find some clues as to how I could do some calibration to it for best results. And what a disappointment that was, imagine everyone saying that to do it properly you needed to either hire a specialist with the proper measurements tools, or buy the equipment needed and learn to do it yourself, which could cost as much as the projector itself.

I was very disappointed and didn't liked that part of objectivism at all. Couldn't I just use my eyes, got two of them and I can hold my ground on a staring contests.

So, not to be a simple-minded objectivists when you have to make objective measurements (roughly) and that if you do not understand how the
measurement equipment works then ..eh ..you can not interpret the results.Of course that's right.
That goes without saying, I think. That is, you need to understand how your measuring equipment works and how to interpret the results. What is that statement to care about?

I can not operate or interpret the result performed with:

Would it be so sensational to point out that I could not handle a MRI scan/machine? There is a lot that many can not do, but in itself there is nothing to talk about.:)

But okay if the article is a critique of ASR and Amir, you will have to see it in a different way. But Amir is not the only one who uses Audio Precision analyzer, is he?

You didn't look in the right place. You can do some basic calibration without such gear with a little knowledge. Plus you can buy bluray or dvd discs with some filters and test patterns. You won't match a pro done calibration with a ton of expensive gear. You will get closer than otherwise and be right in the ball park of very good.

I am pretty sure this is a direct comment on the ASR community.
It’s my strong belief that the only way to change things is to hit companies where it hurts, their bottom line. I kept my subscription to Stereophile for 15 years to try and support the industry and because I like John Atkinson’s measurements.

Now that the magazine seems to be attacking objective data rather than embracing it, I’ve finally cancelled my subscription (last day will be 08/09). It’s only a few dollars a month, but if enough people do it, they may change their business model and mindset.

But I am the best looking one:

He he, lol. :)

Also, IF it is you who is referred to in the Stereophile article, Jim Austin should not do a childish Dannyism ("I do not say his name" Dannyism that is). Then you address the person you are referring to directly AND show concrete examples. If Jim Austin have something substantial to show, that is.

Well at least @amirm we know what you look like and who you are... unlike some other Goldfinger types who don't like to show their faces. ;)

Yeh, I considered strapping a GoPro camera on my head. But thought I am too good looking to stay behind the camera that way....

I was trying to make the point that the vision fellows have en large understood that the eyes can get you so far and proper measurements are needed for great results. On audio, even media like Stereophile, are still talking about intuition, mystical interpretation of measurements, it's a childishly game they are playing and is becoming fast tiresome and even insulting in a strange way (damn, that's what hanging around here do to you).

About the projector (an entry level Benq HT2050a), thanks. I followed some settings recommendation I found and it looks good enough for me, but then again I think I am easy pleased.

Facts get in the way of a good Story;

When your business is selling stories the people with the facts are getting in the way....

You’d have to do a double-deaf test. With a peg on the nose for good measure

Of course they take a shot at measurements. Stereophile features gear from makers they have good "relationships" with. This includes gear the measures average but somehow has "great sound". I'm in no way an expert, but Amirs reviews are to the point (and as a Marantz AVR owner frustrating).

For example, Stereophile to my knowledge never featured this little high end maker from Germany, although his gear is well designed, he measures everything with his Audio Precision and you get measurements for the device you are buying with the question "You still want it?".
Examples:

Forget about the design, it's mostly targeted for Asia, they love the Gold. Also some gear like the net filter goes into esoteric areas (some people really really want to buy such stuff).

Old preachers, desperately clinging to the quickly dwindling remains of their congregation. Blaming scientists and heretics for their vacant churches and cracked icons. It'll all be over soon, and we'll build cold, black Klippel-obelisks on the charred and pitiful remains of their once decadent and opulent cathedrals.

Anyway. *cough* :p
