Hi guys,

Have you heard of HRTF (head-related transfer function) for our headphones ? ;)
https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Head-related_transfer_function

More importantly, did you know that the IRCAM (french resarch institute) has put online about 50 test sounds simulating a 3D environment, so you can choose the one that better fits your own head dimensions and physiology ?
http://recherche.ircam.fr/equipes/salles/listen/sounds.html

So once you have settled on one head (which can be tedious - the test sounds are quite awful, lol), you can select the corresponding impulse responses in this list :
http://recherche.ircam.fr/equipes/salles/listen/download.html

... and then you can feed your favorite stereo convolution plug-in with it, which can help you achieve binaural sound, enlarged soundstage, "out of your head" feeling, etc.. o_O

This is not just crossfeed, it's much more than that. I'm currently discovering and toying with it, but maybe some of you have more experience on that matter. Please share with us if that's the case.

There's a tutorial here for various audio players : https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/...to-setup-hqplayer-jriver-foobar2000/#comments

I hope it helps !

Head related transform function processing has been used for decades. There are many contemporary recordings which heavily use this processing by way of plug-ins such as THIS. Regular stereo can be processed with plug-ins (I do this in my studio), but its more effective when working from multi-track material so that only certain sounds can be panned to the side/rear/overhead of the listener.

Its most effective on headphones due to the absolute isolation of the left and right channels however it is possible to achieve equal effect using speakers of the right type in the right room.

Obviously the point of this topic is not to tell people about HRTF (although some may discover it here), but rather to tell people about the IRCAM models, which are free for everybody to try and use unlike the rather expensive Panorama 6. I made a previous search and didn't find anything on ASR, so...
