Stereo 3.5mm 12V cable caused popping sound

I have a Denon 4700 AVR in pre-out mode connected to an external amplifier with a high-level connection to an REL sub. When I used a stereo 3.5mm cable for the 12V trigger out to the amp it caused the subwoofer to make a popping sound when the external amp powered on and off via the 12V trigger.

Replacing the trigger cable with a mono 3.5mm fixed it.

I'm just wondering if anybody knows why a stereo 12 volt trigger cable would have caused the popping sound on the sub.

I think I have same issue and looks my processor damaged!
I use normal trigger and it’s make a lot noise

Some brands state not to use stereo cables. Some don't care and it works. This would be about the socket in the appliance, if it connects DC +- where it needs to with a TRS plug.

Pro tip: don’t do that! Use the proper subwoofer output of the AVR!
