Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu

I’ve been alive for nine Star Wars movies, and this was the first one I did not go see.

Disney has pumped out so much slop that I’ve just lost all enthusiasm for the franchise and the universe. The good stuff is too few and far between. I read the exoanded universe books starting in elementary school in the 90s until about 2016 or 2017. Disney threw out the expanded universe novels, and began releasing books closely tied in to the sequel movies. Granted, it was all pretty much pop space opera stuff, not high literature. But the change in tone was noticeable, even with the some of the same authors on board. I just lost all interest, couldn’t finish a few of those books.

Alex Kurtzman did something similar to Star Trek, but I can still enjoy previous Star Trek. With Star Wars? I don’t care anymore. Like thinking about a formerly close friend you never see or talk to anymore, but you don’t really care to reconnect with either. It’s like I already dealt with the loss.
 
I already had the disappointments with the prequels so I look at SW very lightly and expect only a few solid releases like Andor
I don't care much for baby Yoga or any babysitter adventures but knowing that it was part of this latest movie made sure I couldn't be so disappointed. And I still think Mando is basically just a papercut figure compared to the same actor's role in Game of Thrones as Oberyn, far superior and more interesting in every way.
SW is popcorn, as Lucas said, made for 12 year olds. Watch with younger souls and keep that in mind and it's all easier to accept

3 Mandalorian seasons on TV were great fun, as was the movie. "That's Entertainment"
And I know, you're all going to tell me what a boring chick flick Andor wasn't. ROTFLMAO
 
The absolutely weirdest take I have seen about Andor is that it would be a chick flick. I'm 100% positive that more chicks gush over both Din Djarin and baby Yoda than anyone or anything in Andor. Chicks would probably be bored to hell with Andor. But seeing that take is from an old guy stuck in a teenage boys mind I guess I'm not surprised..
 
Sure, but as a character throughout the whole series it's probably not many chicks that stays which was my point.

Well, the first season was at least.

For anybody who hasn’t seen it yet, stop at season 1. That’s the high water mark.

Yes, to each their own, but I thought the movie was a fun romp. No super consequential plot events (like blowing up the Death Star). More like a few action packed days in the life of Mando. Reminded me of the serials that partially inspired George Lucas with the original. It was a briskly moving plot. Yes, there were some juvenile moments, but SW tries to appeal to a wide audience, so I cut them some slack with that. I’m not sure exactly what people were expecting from this movie. Some people just love to hate SW and Disney these days, I guess. I was thoroughly entertained. It was amazing in IMAX. I will be watching it again at home. Definitely some demo-worthy scenes in there too.

It's not really "just love to hate" in many pieces of criticism I've seen. The problem is that what you describe as "a few action packed days in the life of Mando" isn't worthy of a 165 million dollar budget and theater release (in the eyes of many critics). Movies are generally expected to be self-contained and have more substance that a short episode-arc in television, unless of course they're a part of a series of movies like a trilogy. By putting it on the big screen expectations (normally) go up.

If this movie had been broken up into three episodes and had been contained within a new season of Mando nobody would have complained about it being unusually bad because it's basically what the rest of the show is like.

You see what I mean?

I stopped after the prison episode in s1. As I've previously written it just looked like Mando survived on pure luck and not skill.

I see your point of view, and you’re certainly entitled to it, but I just don’t happen to agree with it. For me, it was a fun, entertaining, action-packed movie, with great sound, picture, and special effects. Felt like $165 million to me, but, like you, I’m just another guy on the internet with an opinion.

Sure, I'm not discounting your feelings at all. If you enjoyed it you enjoyed it. Nobody can argue against that.

Andor isn't a chick flick. I just pointed out that you clearly aren't understanding things if that's what you think it is. If you take that as an insult that's your call.

Btw, I'm not 100% sure what we're supposed to make of the comment that it's a chick flick in the first place. I mean, if I wanted to not be generous I'd think it was a somewhat poorly veiled insulting put down that did a drive-by on women in the process, which in turn makes it less appealing to not be blunt about your misunderstandings.

No talk of a big screen $165m cinema movie to follow.

Chick-flix as in containing little that would upset most women's delicate sensibilities, just like all the stuff aired daily on 2 Hallmark channels, you know.
The alternate/opposite of a Mans movie, they mostly didn't enjoy John Wayne either LOL

Yeah, a tender-hearted space cowboy looking after an adorable baby really offends women's sensibilities. C'mon man. You just don't want to watch stuff with a lot of dialogue and now you're going out of your way to insult people that do. Different people like different stuff. We can leave it at that.

10 years ago you posted about how much you loved Rogue One... guess what, if you'd watched it, you'd know Andor was the prequel to Rogue One and the last scene of the show leads directly into the movie.

I loved the extent of that tie-in. Andor made Rogue One a much different watch! The first thing I wanted to do after the Andor finale was watch Rogue One. Really enjoyed it.
