Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (TV)

They do seem to be in "pendulum" mode. Next week will be better if this holds true.
Yep, after a few weeks of disposable soap operas, ghost storys, and B&W junk, Episode 8 brought a decent piece of Trek writing in Orders of Magnitude.
For me it's one of only a couple S4 episodes worth the time. The Kirk brothers stood their ground against a out of order Admiral.
Go get'em James T.

Kirk, the James T. Kirk, drugs (poisons) a superior officer because he does not agree with an order, then allows someone else to take the fall for it. That's did not sit right with me at all. I can't be the only one.

Recall in the episode "A Taste of Armageddon" when Kirk and his landing party are taken hostage and going to be killed, he invokes General Order 24 to Scotty, which is to destroy all life on the planet to save his crew.

Maybe that will be further explored in the following episodes? I hope so.

Speaking of soap operas, Poor Spock, he just can't hold on to a woman. First he loses T'Pring, then Nurse Chapel dumps him while away on leave, now La'an has dropped him like a hot potato.
Who's next in line for a boo, maybe Uhara? :p

Well I spoke too soon. We get one decent week and it's back to the crew running around in ancient times tights pretending they're in Sherwood Forest or something.
WTF wrong with these writers, they call this crap Sci-Fi ?
S4E9 Once La'an A Time

Maybe they need to alter the title to Star Trek: Strange, New Worlds. ;)

Another fantasy episode based on a prior fantasy episode. The laziness of this season reaches new heights. Oy vey.

There was the "Qpid" episode in TNG.

Most of the series was either straight up (poorly done) reboots of prior ST episodes or based on prior episodes. Some were not terrible, none really added anything of value to the ST universe. Strong point for me, what kept me viewing, was the character development. I liked most of them, so I enjoyed watching them, but series went downhill with each season, and this final season seems written by 4th graders.

I've managed to watch two episodes all the way through this season and even they were a chore... most were skipped... I think they named the show in error...
Star Trek SNW... Same Nonsense Weekly...

I stopped watching in the middle of the previous season. My tolerance for bad writing is extremely low, especially for sci-fi. That's why I only go out to movie theaters a couple of times a year. At least at home if show is bad I don't hesitate to abort and watch something else.

My tolerance is very low these days, but my tolerance for all things Trek is very high, so I plodded on like the loyal die hard fan I am. My all time record for impatiences with bad writing and related was broken just recently. I made it tad less than 5 minutes into that recent Star Wars spin off movie The Mandalorian and Grogu. I was not big fan of that series anyway but wow was it obvious what a POS that movie would be.

For me that was a rare outlier while the majority were well done. My biggest complaint with TNG were the seasons that centered around having Wesley Crusher on the bridge.. Firstly he just drove me nuts with that big dumb grin on his face LOL. Also the idea of having a teenager in a position where the life's of hundreds on board were depending on his performance under pressure, who hadn't even been trained by Star Fleet, fell too far out of believability for me. About the only characters I hated dealing with more were the Ferengi, I was surprised to see them resurfacing in so many of the different franchise series?

Back to the subject of SNW etc; I was never a big fan of Voyager, I just never thought Janeway worked well in the role. But recently I've been reviewing the seasons-episodes again on Paramount+, many of which I'd never seen before. Back in their day I was normally too busy with working and partying to watch TV. I'm still not a fan of her, but I am now being struck by the fact that it's writers were routinely capable of turning out good Sci-Fi based scripts each week with little to none of the silly BS nonsense that has packed so much of SNW. In fact there was much to criticize about Academy but yet they didn't have to resort to scripts that turned them into muppets, Fiar Tucks, Musicals, or some wedding fantasy crap. LOL JMHO

All the "good" Treks had their share of insufferable characters. The other characters in TNG I couldn't stand were Barclay and Lwaxana Troi. And then there was Neelix in VOY, although he did have some good moments, like trying to make Tuvok smile.

Agreed, What many don't know is that Lwaxana , Majel Barrett was the wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. She was AKA "the first Lady of Star Trek" and appeared often as Nurse Chapel in TOS and later Lwaxana on TNG and DS9. Nepotism? :p

Majel was quite busy in the Star Trek Universe... as one can see...

Majel Barrett Roddenberry is the only actor to appear in all six original Star Trek television series and multiple films, primarily known for providing the voice of the ship computer across the franchise from 1966 to 2008. Her credited on-screen roles include Number One in the original pilot "The Cage," Nurse Christine Chapel in the Original Series and animated series, and Lwaxana Troi in The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine.

Her specific appearances include:

  • Star Trek: The Original Series: Played Number One in "The Cage" and Nurse Christine Chapel in 25 episodes; provided uncredited voice work for the Enterprise computer in 7 episodes.
  • Star Trek: The Animated Series: Voiced Nurse Christine Chapel in 9 episodes and various other characters in 22 episodes.
  • Star Trek Films: Portrayed Nurse Christine Chapel in Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; provided the voice for the ship computer in Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, and the 2009 Star Trek film (posthumous).
  • Star Trek: The Next Generation: Played Lwaxana Troi in 6 episodes and provided the voice for the Enterprise-D computer in 101 episodes.
  • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Played Lwaxana Troi in 3 episodes and provided the voice for the Federation/DS9 computer in 30 episodes.
  • Star Trek: Voyager: Provided the voice for the Voyager computer in 115 episodes.
  • Star Trek: Enterprise: Provided the voice for the Enterprise-D computer in the episode "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II" and "These Are The Voyages...".
  • Star Trek: Picard: Provided archival audio for the Enterprise computer in 2 episodes (posthumous).
Barrett also voiced the computer in non-Star Trek productions such as Family Guy and Babylon 5 (as Lady Morella), but her primary legacy remains her extensive contribution to the Star Trek universe.
