Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (TV)

It is a shame that shows like TNG or DS9 will never happen again...Not just because nobody would have the balls to make something like that, but modern audiences don't have the patience.

The irony is that TNG, even today, will make them more money than all this modern Drek combined.

Can you explain that? Sounds interesting, I just don’t know the subject well enough to understand.

Star Trek - Strange New Worlds, S3-E4 "A Space Adventure Hour"
Well I really hoped they learned their lesson about gettin all weirdo with the writing and the first 3 episodes of season 3 weren't too bad.
But here we were at E4 and once again the wheels have fallen off, and we got some type of fantasy-comedy that IMHO is just junk. Why can't they
find someone to just write good Sci-Fi ??? Thank God Gene Roddenberry isn't around to see the circus they've made of his brain child.
I almost turned it off after 5 minutes, but managed to stick with it and it got a little better. I still don't understand why they insist on inserting this type of episode in every season.

What’s happened to Star Trek is the same thing that’s happened to every iconic franchise. Back then, the people making TNG had a clear vision (well, except season one). They also had limitations, many of them imposed by Gene Roddenberry himself. The writers, producers, and actors had to actually think and be creative, not just slap some CGI lasers on the screen and call it a day.

TNG was filled with stories that dealt with big ideas like AI rights, ethics, diplomacy, philosophy, and the morality of the Prime Directive. The crew behaved like professionals doing their jobs. DS9 was the opposite to TNG. It had drama, conflict and war. But it took its time, building up those themes over four-five seasons and it was still Star Trek.

Modern Trek, on the other hand, is obsessed with revenge, drama and conflict and nothing else - it’s basically The Anti-Star Trek. I honestly doubt the current showrunners even know what the Prime Directive is. Every character acts like a child who wouldn’t survive high school, let alone belong on the bridge of the Federation's flagship!

And I get it - they’re trying to reinvent the franchise for a new audience who’s never seen Trek. But, they’ve only managed to alienate the old fans while failing to bring in new ones. Netflix isn't buying the rights for Discovery or any other new Trek. But they’ve kept TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise in their library for years...

Well SNW isn't as bad as STD. STD was so bad that it was unwatchable. All the characters are inflicted with emotional diarrhoea, so much sobbing and crying and "I love you so much". Not to mention the incredibly far-fetched plot requiring all sorts of cosmic coincidences and contrived conveniences just to get the plot moving forward.

In my opinion, Trek has been misused to promote "woke" themes totaly overdone. It's damaging its legacy overall just as the Section31 movie a complete cheap disaster

Yes, SNW is not as bad as STD...sort of like chlamydia. :)

Edit: Joking aside, the first season of SNW was fine.

I'll reiterate my point, saying that in TNG the characters were acting and felt like they were more civilised than us, which was to me the main impact on the atmosphere and spirit, and as a consequence, as was said previously the themes/subjects they were coming up with were more geeky and treated in a credible futuristic way at that time.
In SNW characters act like they're from our era, and the approach to so-called woke themes being so gross is just a consequence of this mediocre character building, which is Greenwich Village level civilised at best.
I hope i made myself understood.

Yep, I found Discovery mostly unwatchable. I'd record it each week then watch it if I got aroundtoit.
More times than not I'd fast forward thru it mostly. :(

I was in Barnes and Nobles yesterday at Altamonte Mall - walking around after lunch and looking for the soundtrack to the new Fantastic Four movie we had just watched. Apparently not released yet, but they did have the singing musical episode of SNW from season two on vinyl! No, I did not buy it.

I had the last 2 episodes of the previous season recorded and after reading the discussion here I eventually just deleted them. I was optimistic this season would be different or at least headed in the right direction but was disappointed. Singing last season then dancing this season. So far removed from the essence of Star Trek and what sci-fi should be IMO. I watch sci-fi to avoid stories like that.

Thank you, most enlightening.

the soundtrack to the new Fantastic Four movie we had just watched.
Without giving away any plot secrets, how did you like the movie?
The short clips I have seen appeared very Hollyweird woky to me.

It’s worth seeing. Not on the level of Josh Whedon’s Avengers, but more than “good enough”. Apparently, because Disney did the distribution and did not tell 20 Century Fox how to make the movie, it came out fine. A marked improvement over Captain America Brave New World.

Thanks Bob, Think I'll blow my wad and check it out in the local IMAX .
Time to have some FUN again at the movies, I hope. ;)

Some of SNW have been pretty good, but then you get this week’s episode - “What is Starfleet”. WTF!

I think I’m don’t after the zombie episode. This has gotten ridiculous

They are on a tight tight budget i guess. Know he is dead but i'm loging for Badass Lorca taking over the captains chair.

Season 3 of SNW ended, and I was left wondering if Starfleet now requires a tolerance test. After 58 years of loyal fandom, this is the first time I’m actually welcome a executive order to take out Season 4.
