Trek has always been woke. If you don't know that you weren't paying attention.

"Why is Rage against the machine so woke now?!?"

The early 2010's people were complaining "the gays" were too in your face everywhere. Now they are a normal part of shows, and not just as a token character. But there are definitely examples of things being overdone.

I think the same thing happened to woke movies and tv-shows. Some of it might be preachy and overdone but we'll find a way there by toning some things down.

Equality is good.
Flipped roles to show hypocrisy is also good.
Unironic flipped roles to just be the terror you think the other group is instead is bad.
People getting annoyed.
Normal part of everyday life.
Some angry leftovers on both sides that will die out with time.

I've been enjoying this - the set design and HDR look spectacular too. The audio seems odd though, very lispy. I asked Gemini and concluded that the sets contain lots of reflective surfaces so the audio was overly de-lipssed. Anyone else notice that?

No but if your talking about the star Holly Hunter she has a speech impairment caused by a hearing impairment, she deaf in one ear.

A shame the way actress Kerrice Brooks took the show down in flames after it's cancellation.
She probably won't work in the business again.

I wasn't aware of that. I found her incredibly annoying. Her voice, her over-acting, her mannerisms, slouching in the captain's chair like a cat, walking around barefoot. I wasn't sure whether she has lost her marbles because of old age, or a bad director telling her to do stupid things. She is after all, an Oscar winning actress.

I'm showing my age, but I have to admit, I've just lost interest in the eternal regurgitation of the Star Trek and Star Wars universes. Ditto Marvel and any superheros. I've had enough for a lifetime.

I loved the original series as a youngster, so it has always had a place in my heart. And yet, I never looked at any of the next gen series', and as for the movies, the first one was such a disappointment that I think I only watched The Wrath of Khan decades after its release, because of the good reviews, and yes, quite enjoyed it.

The two prequel-reboot movies, ST in 2009 and STID in 2013, were an unexpectedly unalloyed delight. IMHO Pine and Quinto exceeded expectations given the near impossible task of re-characterisation.

Trust me when I say this: TNG is vastly superior to TOS. Both are dated now, but the plot of many of TNG's stories still feel contemporary. I rewatched some TOS and I really enjoyed it. It's a great TV series for sure, but TNG has more depth. And ... I just like Picard, Riker, Jordi, Data, Troi, and Dr. Crusher! Not so much Wesley, Barclay, or Lwaxana.

Even though I felt HH character was quite ridiculous, that didn't spoil the entire series for me, and I'll watch season 2 whenever it runs. It's merely freakin TV entertainment, nothing more..

It's a great TV series for sure, but TNG has more depth. And ... I just like Picard, Riker, Jordi, Data, Troi, and Dr. Crusher! Not so much Wesley, Barclay, or Lwaxana.

We're in 100% agreement here. Lwaxana and Barcay just plain sucked, and the use of Wesley at navigation on the bridge when he wasn't Even In StarFleet was just wrong in so many ways. OTOH I still loved TNG in any case, along with the 3 Picard seasons.
One other thing, I hated Ferengi's on any of the series they appeared on.

Can't agree with that. TOS has a handful of unwatchable episodes, TNG has dozens.

TNG is always on some channel, I will check to see which episode. I'd say maybe one in five are watchable, most of the time I'm, 'On no, not that one!'

It had a lot of potential which is not realised most of the time (although when it is, it is very good) and it takes itself way too seriously.

For sure, I enjoyed most every one of them, some more than others but they were all meant to be FUN, to ENTERTAIN, not to be some work of art to hand down through the ages. LOL Marvel did fuck up when they killed off Tony Stark, what's the Avengers without the Iron Man ? Bring him back, the did Superman.

Will be interesting to see if he is just as convincing as Dr. Doom, i'm cautiously optimistic for this new phase

I really liked Thunderbolts, and I hope that the new Spider-Man will be okay as well, we'll see
oh and i also liked (a finally) okay version of the Fantastic Four, although the best FF version is still the The Incredibles of course

I also had trouble with her (Holly Hunter) pronunciation/the way she talks - but I was not aware of her hearing impairment (@Sal1950 - thanks for letting me know). Once I learned about that, I was okay with continuing to watch the series...

However, there was an episode (early in the season) where Kerrice Brooks was a main character (in a lead role)... the whole episode was about her. Right then and there, I told myself - nahh, you can't be watching this crap. So I stopped.

The situation with starfleet academy shows exactly what happens when industry DEI mandates take over. Star trek has always been progressive, but it worked because the stories and characters came first. Now, franchises are prioritizing demographic checkboxes and modern social politics over good writing, internal logic, and established lore. There is little to no respect left for the history, timeline and cultural traits within the star trek universe.

When you focus more on meeting institutional quotas than on building a compelling and great sci-fi story, you end up with watered-down content that alienates most of the fans who built the franchise in the first place. Sad.

We'll soon see (July 23) what Strange New Worlds S4 brings us.
There were some past episodes I thought were great, and some that made me want to vomit.
I'm really hoping it will be good, it's public reception will probably determine the making of any new Star Trek fare for decades to come.
