Spirits, what you drinking...

My stepson turns 40 tomorrow.

He cracked his bottle open last night.
There’s a reason for the price.

That bottle of Scarpa must think it's been accidently invited to the wrong party.

PS I really like Scarpa.
Yeah , that bottle is prob 15 years old - still unopened…. Haven’t produced it in years ….
I usually buy a bottle of scotch once a month or so , whether I need it or not , to put away - due to the ever skyrocketing increase in prices …. The Scapa 16 was fantastic as well - but it too is long out of production..

The Aberlour is my favorite- much better than Macallan to my palate - and far less expensive. Some of those Aberlour 18’s were $80 when I bought them …. They’re $220 now …. In just a few years . That Macallan 18 was $150 (1992 vintage) when I got it in 2011 … it’s over $400 now .. stupid pricing and not worth it ….. all that Macallan was actually “gifted” to me believe it or not ….

I've never really understood the Macallan thing, but I'm not Speyside focused, but I do like Aberlour a lot. Whist not being bothered by Macallan that is an amazing gift.

I'm increasingly grumpy about the prices, not sure if this is a relatively short term trendy thing (completely out of touch so no idea), or just part of the everything is more expensive since the pandemic. However I discovered a long time ago that I also really like young whisky, I might even prefer it, and there is great stuff out there at reasonable prices.

Not Scottish! However, it's a fine whiskey if one can bear the price.

I don’t get the Macallan thing either … way overrated, good marketing I guess , like JW Blue …. Thus , those cases of Macallan remain largely intact …. Definitely not my “go to” dram ….. lol

Trump imposed tariffs on scotch during his first term , they were eventually removed , but the prices never came back down, only continued to rise ….. imagine that !

I brought this over to a friend's place. I've had it for a while but just cracked it open tonight. Insane combination of fruit, honey and sledge hammer at 59.8% alcohol.
