Was at a local whisk(e)y tasting event

Hibiki Harmony is one of my favorites. I don't have access to the 21 YO unfortunately. How was it?

Very interesting aromatic sandalwood incense notes, and sweet pea too.

Singapore, where I'm from, is quite a mature market for fine liquor and there are rich guys with the wherewithal and access to this level of stuff. Every year they gather to sell pours from such (and other even higher end) bottles at cost or a minimal markup.

I paid 15usd for 2cl for the Hibiki 21.

Mmmm, sounds good. I paid £15 for the bottle of Black Bottle in currently drinking, my favourite blend, one of the few I find really enjoyable. I've been on a cheapskate investigation recently, I need to do that to remind myself that expensive isn't a guide to quality from time to time.

When my Dad used to visit from Stateside, he would sometimes bring me a bottle of Chivas Regal from duty free.

Look what I have for a treat for later tonight.

I realised earlier that I haven't drunk Chivas in over 11 years. Cheers Dad.

Thought I would reach out to the Forum for some advice on Bourbon. I want to buy a good bottle for my brother-in-law for XMAS as thanks for all the support he's given my sister as well as me this year dealing with the loss of our mother and all the estate things we have to deal with

I know he likes Maker's Mark and does not like high proof bourbons. What would you all recommend as a "better" bottle with these in mind?

Many thanks!

Four Roses Small Batch (45% ABV / 90 Proof) is one option. Since he doesn't prefer the higher proofs, that one is probably a better option than their Single Barrel OBSV or Small Batch Select (which I just poured a glass of to help me write this reply). https://www.fourrosesbourbon.com/bourbon/small-batch

Got a friend to help get me a small nip of some vintage whisky many consider among the greatest of all time: Clynelish bottled at extra high proof back when this was unheard of, for an eccentric Italian man who pioneered cask strength single malts (Edward Giaccone). The bottle on the left is bottled in 1969 so the liquid inside dates back 12 years before that to 1957 or so. The bottle on the left came two years after so the liquid in that dates to around 1959.

The 1969 bottling is my pick of the two but some might prefer the later bottle.

Why the 1969? It smells like Jamaican jerk chicken with fresh lime squeezed liberally on top. Unbelievable.

A little cross posting never hurt anyone when it’s appropriate…

Lots of water. Had way too much Whispering Angel rosé last night... listening to a fantastic jazz ensemble (sax/clarinet, contrabass, guitar, drums). Awesome night but paying for it... :)

Strawberries, blueberries in small quantity, banana etc are sooper for hangovers...

I picked up a 750mL bottle of Merrys Strawberry Irish Cream Liqueur. IT's tasty and @ 17% alc volume it is begging for adding some rye to it for more slam!

Many moons ago I was a whisky drinker, moving up the ladder of various blended and finally to single malt. But for the last almost 40 years nothing at all. Beer and wine absolutely, but no whisky. But on our trip to London and Scotland back in September when we were in Inverness we decided that we must try some since we were in Scotland. After all day out birding around the Black Isle - decent weather, cool and a bit overcast and breezy - when we got back to our hotel, The Heathmount - a very nice place with wonderful people, we went down to the bar and talked to the very nice young woman behind the bar about what we should try. After some conversation she suggested this, and she was right as we found it very tasty. So much so that I decided to order a bottle to be shipped to us as it's not available in my area. We had some the other day watching the crappy weather down here and it hit the spot.

The Tomatin 14 Year had been out of stock for a while in my neck of the woods. Good move getting a bottle shipped!

For everyday use, there is no better taste/price ratio than Alberta Premium Canadian whisky. Another extremely tasty drink, almost impossible to find, is the ordinary 38% Santiago de Cuba Rum. They both represent exceptional value for your money! I had better whisky and better rum, but at much higher price that I could not justify for regular use.
