What did you make of this? I've not had English whisky, which is odd considering where I live.

This was an independently bottled, cask strength, single cask, so I don't think it reflects the baseline level of quality most bottles that would appear in the market from the distillery. This was perfectly smooth, surprisingly devoid of heat, full of butterscotch and apple flavours.

Beguiling. Pineapples in syrup, papayas, sandalwood and cream soda. Fresh and vibrant even after 45 years of aging.

I love their whisky, something really special about it.

SO just came back from a trip with her family to Japan. Got an independently-bottled Bunnahabhain single cask by a very highly-rated bottler owned by Japanese (17 years old, sherry cask, 62.8% cask strength!). As well as a small-batch Glenfarclas released exclusively for the Japanese market. Can't wait to try both. Japanese anoraks often are the source of some of the coolest things in niche hobbies.

Irish Coffee

I'll say here what I said in the Coffee thread... too light a brew. That person is fired.

:p

But Teelings does make a good Irish. ;)

Happy Merry and Merry Happies!

Amaro sour cocktail

1 1/2 rye or bourbon for smoother
1 amaro, e.g. Averna or Melletti for a little softer
3/4 lemon juice or a bit more for less sweet
1/2 Cointreau or a bit less for less sweet
2 dashes Angostura bitters or a bit more for more bitter

We really like this. It's complex, sour and bitter with enough sweetness from the Cointreau to be very approachable. Personally, I like a touch more lemon juice, but it's quite sensitive to overwhelming the background flavors of the amaro.

Bought an open bottle with about 5-6oz left of this Yoichi whisky from Nikka from a guy downsizing his massive collection. Vatting of 26 to 35 year old Japanese single malt. This auctions well into the thousands. I paid around $120. Respect to the seller for opening and drinking such a bottle instead of having it sitting pretty for speculation.

Insanely good.

I've been sipping a Canadian whiskey called Gibson's Finest 12 year aged since about the beginning of December and today I bought a bottle of Jameson Triple Distilled and wowowow does the Jameson have a tingly sharp flavor.
