Sphere shaped speakers with CHN110 drivers

Hi Pataki
My dealer doesnt have MA110 only MA 120 and 90 will i be ok totry your build with these drivers what will i notget in performace

thanks
anand
Do you mean that you could only have the CHR120 or the CHR90 instead of the CHN110?

The CHR120 in my opinion would be too big for this sphere cabinet
The CHR90 would be a great choice but then I would recommend adding a subwoofer too
Another alternatives could be the Pluvia 11 or the MAOP 11

Pluvia 11 or the MAOP 11 are avaibale with my dealer but MAOp is very expensive.
What shold I do.
I dont understand why somany drivers Mark Audio makes so confusing for begineers

My understanding is that MAOP 11 is a Pluvia 11 with additional treatment that improves resolution and dispersion. Different production products have different design objectives.

I have done a project with the Pluvia 11 already:

And this is the subwoofer project for the Pluvia project:

In a previous post you said you could not tell the difference between a mark audio chn 110 driver and a moap in a blind test, do you still stick to that statement, that the cheapest driver mark audio produces sounds very similar to the most expensive

Yes I do
I would just add one thing: the MAOPs sound a bit less 'metallic' - but this is a small difference, definitely not day and night

Thanks ! I’ll seriously think for the chn driver, it should be incredible value for money.

You see I am looking for a drive unit for use in an open baffle type situation, do you think any of the many mark audio drivers you have tested could be suitable. I may buy a woofer or tweeter to help out if the mark audio drive unit struggles with the extreme ends of the audio. I’m trying to get some driver information together before I make a start

None of those drivers are optimized for OB but if you wish to use them in such a way, make sure that you high-pass them correctly
You could check the distortion graph to get a hint about where to apply the high-pass filter
A tweeter might not be necessary, that is up-to-taste, really - you will see once you give it a try
