I love songs featuring two guitars playing each in separate stereo channel. What is much harder to find (and sometimes also to notice when not doing concentrated listening), is an arrangement with three guitars (not counting the bass one). Two guitars playing separately to each stereo channel and one "central" playing "over the top". I feel like the next few examples count for such tracks. Although the live CSNY classic is not so "separated", you get some visual help with focusing on each guitar :) Can you suggest some more interesting tracks in this manner? Thank you all for relevant tips.

Noir Désir - Le Vent Nous Portera

Wishbone Ash - Leaf and Stream

Arthur Lee and Love - Ninety miles away

Crosby Stills Nash Young (CSNY) - Almost cut my hair (1974 live version)

Stylistically, you should check out Irish folk music from the 70s-- they did that an awful lot.

Thanks guys for reviving this old thread! Sure not my everyday music but interesting contributions for sure.
Indian beatles is almost like mindf*ck, my brain had a really hard time to separate each "guitar stream". Maybe I shall adopt scientific aproach and load some software to separate it chirurgically, to help me better enjoy each subtle flavor

Only two guitars:
One of my favourites, though.

Would some expert help me identify instruments played during the "left-right-center battle"? :) (section at around 4:13-6:05)
(not to mention excellent drumming afterwards)
[song: One Word - Mahavishnu Orchestra / 1973]

Jerry Goodman violin left.
John guitar right.
Jan Hammer playing whatever kind of keyboard(s) center channel.
Billy Cobham drums panned over all channels
Rick Laird bass center.

I don't know what guitar he was playing. Usually he had a Gibson EDS-1275, Les Paul, or later his custom Rex Bogue.

Thanks, not exactly "triple guitars" this time, but it somehow passes the spirit of the thread, at least by me ;) Or maybe the Gibson counts for two..:)

Due to processing, the keyboard, guitar, and violin sound remarkably similar. As far as the double necked guitar thing--recall Roger Spear's musical comedy act (Bonzo Dog Band) parodying those:
