Speakers not working

Here is part of the Roland schematic I found in the service manual: https://www.scribd.com/document/676768865/Roland-E-09-Service-Manual

I tried to add clarification in blue, as I understand it (could be mistaken). But it looks to me like R and S are shorted together so that the cable you have will function the same as the TS to XLR cable. Maybe someone who is more familiar with this stuff can comment. I am not trying to be too insistent that your cables should work, just offering this in an attempt to be helpful or giving info to someone who can be more helpful than I am.
Ok , so a double 1/4'' ts jack or 1/4'' jack to xlr would probably work. Thanks!

Well I was saying I thought the cable you have should work. But what I really was hoping was that someone with more expertise will offer some advice.

I concur. (You could do better than this when it comes to CMRR, but in terms of getting audio out, it should do just fine.) So not sure why the combo wouldn't work.

I'm not sure why TS (or TRS) to XLR cables are being used at all. The JBL 305P MkII has a TRS input. Just use T(R)S to T(R)S cables. Although I am also unclear why the signal isn't getting through with the existing cable.

Just to confirm, when you don't have the cables plugged in the sound plays through the Roland's built-in speakers normally, yes? Also you don't have anything plugged into the headphone jacks, as that will mute all other outputs, right? Are the headphone jacks 1/4" (6.3mm)? If so, have you tried connecting to one of those to see if you get any sound that way?

Also, have you switched the input sensitivity on the JBL 305P to the -10dBv setting? Could be that the line level signal from the Roland is too low to be heard easily when set at +4dBu.

Yes, yes to that, and yes to that as well, and yes to that too. Everything you asked Ive tried/is true. At this point its super confusing. Now i've bought 2x 1/4'' TS jack cables and plugged them in. Again it didnt work. Only if i plug them into the headphone ports do they work but the sound is very weak and sounds kinda off (which makes sense since these ports have been made for headphones not for whole monitors)

Honestly that shouldn't be a problem, as long as you keep the volume on the Roland low (to keep from overdriving the JBL's input) and set the JBL's input sensitivity to -10dBv. My Kawaii only has a 1/4" headphone output and I've used that to go out to audio interfaces and external speakers no issue (with the appropriate TRS to dual TS cable).

Best I can tell at this point there's a problem with the TS outputs on the Roland. You might want to contact Roland support.

Yeah that's what Ive been thinking. When I find time ill probably get it to a shop to get it looked.
