Hi everyone,

I’m planning to make some changes to my gaming room, which is about 11 square meters (4.2m in length and 2.5m in width). Along the entire top wall, I’ve decided to set up three desks. One desk will be dedicated to electronics (PC, 3D printer, etc.), another will be for manual work (to assemble various things), and the last one will be for working/gaming.

Unfortunately, the three desks are 140cm wide, so considering that the monitor alone will be 90cm wide, I don't have space for my old ADAM A7 speakers to be directed towards me (they will be placed where I’ve drawn the red squares).
I'm thinking of retiring the ADAM A7s and getting something smaller. At this point, I'm also considering a 2.1 system, as the ADAMs perform well in the lower frequencies.

Lately, I've been looking at the following setups: Genelec 8010 + a subwoofer of choice, Fostex pm0.3 + a subwoofer of choice (or maybe Fostex PM-SUBmini 2), I was also considering a PA system solution, like the LD systems DAVE 8 or something similar.
As a source, I'll be using the PC with the Fiio K5 Pro audio interface that I already have.

What do you recommend? The important thing is that the speakers should be a maximum of 15cm wide and the same in depth, but they can be as tall as needed (monitor is 39cm). I might even consider a DIY 3D-printed project if you know of something good. The only thing that matters is not losing too much quality compared to what I have now.

Thank you so much to anyone who helps!

Picking very small but good speakers is a pain. Particularly if you don't fancy spending an arm and a leg. (Do you have a specific budget in mind?) If you could still accommodate speakers 16.4 cm wide and 18.6 cm deep, you'd have the Kali LP-UNF as another option, a sizeable step up from the 3"/3.5" class and very decent in the bass. (Neumann KH80s are 15.4 cm wide by 19.4 cm deep.) The IN-UNF satellites are 15.8 cm in diameter.

iLoud MTMs (13 cm wide by 16 cm deep) may be one of your better bets, though being an MTM they're a bit critical in the vertical. There have also been complaints about port noise (chuffing) when bass is involved... which, mind you, may seem familiar to a user of ADAM A7s, at least I recall some similar complaints about those...

I am quite happy with my EVE SC203s now (11.6 cm wide by 13.4 cm deep) but did really have to beat them into submission via measurement and EQ (the tweeter response shows some ripple as well as variation between both speakers, and bass response seems modeled after 8010s with a midbass bump and early steep rolloff and again different between left and right). At least they are dead quiet and have front volume / power and a digital input, none of which is true for 8010As (which leave you with only two sensitivity settings: "princess on a pea" and "very loud", an attenuator or monitor controller may be advised). They get kind of mushy at elevated levels with bass boost, but that's hardly a surprise in a single 3.5" class speaker. Thankfully I don't actually need that where they are.

All of the above (save for the A7s) have a 2-conductor mains cable and should not be prone to ground loops... however subwoofers of the studio variety tend to be, which could still mean trouble between the K5pro and the sub, so keep that in mind.

If open to internet direct, maybe a pair of Ascend Acoustics Lunas (small) + sub or their LX bookshelf but I’ve not checked to see if it fits your preferred dimensions. You likely won’t need a sub with the LXs, at least for music.

Thank you very much for the detailed response. Of all the speakers listed, the only ones I like are the EVE SC203s. I might go for the SC204s, but I think they are too big, and at this point, I’d stick with the ADAMs without angling them.

As for the budget, I can go up to €1200, as I know these are things that will last me 10 years.

Is it possible to opt for a HiFi or PA solution?

Thank you very much, but I actually wanted to go for an active solution rather than a passive one.
