Hello.

Hopefully, I can keep this concise; I'm quite lost.
Total newbie here.

Looking at running some speakers through the JDS Atom Amp.

I'm sorry if anyone gets offended.
I don't mean to insult anyone by the notion of this message, because of the fact that I don't know too much. I apologize.

I believe I was looking at Klipsch's RP400M speakers and their 41PM speakers.
I've also had the "Chane A1.5" speakers in my bookmarks, I don't remember how I knew about them.

I don't know if any of these options could run on the JDS Atom.

If you have any recommendations for 'monitors' for this amp (or vice versa), please share them with me,
and if anyone can guide me in the right direction, please feel obliged.

The JDS Atom would be plugged into the Khadas Tone board. I've read about the recommendation for that combo on this forum site.

Thanks for the consideration.

The JDS Atom is a headphone amp so it won’t power any non-self-powered speakers of any kind, like the Klipsch mentioned above. You’d need a regular stereo amplifier unit connected to your Khadas DAC and then speaker cables to the amp.

You'll need to get the R-14PM or R-15PM if you like them, you can connect them via the RCA output of the ATOM.

Possible and popular alternatives would be the JBL 305P and 306P powered speakers.

The Atom isn't designed to power passive speakers.

I've heard of people running efficient passive speakers directly from the RCA outputs of high-output, low-impedance DACs or headphone amps. Is this what you have in mind?

(Note: I'm certainly not implying I think it's a good idea!)

Ok, after reading thomas's reponse I also thought that I would need the one with the AC plug-in.

maxxevv, I like the JBL 305/6P alternatives, they look like something I may consider to save some dough. I read your suggestion for the R-14PM, and I did a quick look on the website to see if there was a difference between those and the R-41PM. It looks to me the difference seems to be that the 14's are a bit smaller (and cheaper) than the 41's. I'd assume the same this for the 15/51 varients.
Thanks, max.

andreas, I don't know what kinda speakers that are passive (no outside power, but directly the amp, right?) are efficient though.
Actually don't know where to look, lol, heard Klipsch were good. Don't even know if the Atom can is powerful enough for something like the RP400M, for example, that aren't powered from an outside source (active speakers, I assume). Makes me wonder, though, if other folks are running combos and joints like the JDS Atom + Khadas Tone Board and are able to run some passive joints like those, then damn. The Audio Science is f'real up in this mofo, hahahaaa.

Though, to be fair, I don't know too much about reading and matching specs. I'm hoping these are enough for the HD6XX's I've had sitting in it's box for months...

Don't worry about what I said! Was just trying to make sure you weren't planning on trying to execute a bad idea. Go down the path you're already going down, i.e. using the Atom connected to active speakers :)

We can probably give you some ideas about what might suit you if you tell us about your room, taste in music, taste in speakers (if you know it), and preferred listening volumes.

Yeah, just a lil' banter. :)

My room is... sizeable?

136 × 133 sq. in.
and 90 in. high.

I listen to my dude, who I honor as my profile pic, and other related experimental hip-hop joints.
I indulge in some Jazz, as well. Some other genres, too, but keeping this short.

Guess I like my speakers... nice, hah. That's ignorant, I know.
Any thing with fantastic or decent internals, that I can afford, and looks decent.

Don't want to blast my ears out, cuz I'm sensitive, so it hurts.
Plus, I care about my hearing, long term.

A lil' on the low side, to low-to-moderate in terms of listening volumes.

I mean, sometimes I feeling a beat so I turn it up a bit.
However, I'm still a banging banger,
without bangin' my ear drums to hell.

The Atom has way more than enough power for the HD6XX, I have the same KTB + Atom pair as one of my setups too.

But the funny thing you may find is that ... cranking up the volume while the HD6XX headphones are already on your ears... they don't seem to get much louder ...

Until you take your headphones off your head !

max, if that's true, then that's... wow. Can't wait to get my setup ready...

ripvw, I'm definitely look at the JBL's as an option for speakers. Would be dope to hear both of these joints in person, in my private quarters.

The thing about both the Atom and the HD6XX is that both scale up in power with very little if discernible differences diatortion/ sound signature.
My comfortable listening setting of the Atom is between 11 to 12 o'clock on low gain with the HD6XX.
But if I turn the volume completely blind just a little bit at a time, I can end up as far as 1 o'clock on the vole pot ( I drew a mark on mine).

And I won't note the obvious difference in loudness until I look at the knob or take it off my head!

I would of course have noted the loudness if I started out listening at that setting and set it back to my normal listening levels instead.

I have the JBL305s (mk2), and for the price, they are amazing, but I do want a little more bass now and then. If you have the room, the 308 might give you enough for hip hop, or maybe the 305/6 with a sub.

I've had a few other powered monitors (AudioEngine, Adam), and I'm not sure you can do better for the price than the JBLs.

Just a quick update:

Finally everything is setup.

I've come to learn that the Atom came DOA.

Hahahahahahaaaaa....

Thursday, 22 August 2019.

The problem was identified to be a bad AC adapter. Tracking should be sent soon.
This is if anyone cares, for the matter.

I want to say thanks to everyone for their input, and discussion, as late as I have been with this post.

Thank y'all.
