Hi All,
As per the title, I'm trying to bring myself to drop some $$$ on some new speakers - and looking for some advice.
I live in Australia, in a city of ~ 200,000 people - so no chance to demo any of these, and not satisfaction guarantees like in the states (so if i buy and don't like, its resell at a 50% loss type scenario).
Current contenders are:
Wharfedale Diamond 12.2: $600 (AUD)
Polk Audio R200: $900(AUD)
Elac DB63: $719(AUD).
Mixed use, some games, some movies, some music while cooking etc - though rarely seated in front of the speaker.
Current setup includes:
1) AVR Denon AVR-1713 (~ 100W per channel);
2) Klipsch centre speaker from an old quintet;
3) Klipsch 8" sub.
4) Old, repaired, Sony SS-NX1 (to be replaced by this new speaker).
I did a writeup on my old speakers from a learning perspective some time back: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...te-90s-audiophile-mini-system-speakers.56245/ - also provides some images of my room etc.
The space is large, probably 7x9 immediate - but then is part of a large L shaped room carries on around the corner.
A couple of considerations I would love some advise on:
1) Which one would be best for walking about the room/working in the kitchen (off-axis) etc? Would looking at globe plots etc and choosing something with a wider dispersion be better?
2) Which would be best if i wanted to place near-ish a plasterboard (drywall) wall - I can probably currently get about 200mm off between the back of the speaker and the wall.
3) If setup nicely, which would give the best sound quality in the listening position?
4) Do you think I (non-audiophile, but lover of music and good sound gives me the chills) would notice the difference between my old circa 2000 speaker and a new set?
Thanks in advance
