Looking to add simple 2.0 stereo to my pc. Recently upgraded my sound from Soundblaster and Sennheiser Momentum to Meze 99 Neo and Fiio K5 Pro. Looking to keep budget down to $200. Last speakers were a cheap pair of Creative T20's. I'm sure anything would sound decent after this. :-)

Thanks in advance.

Edifiers reviewed here seemed to have impressed Amir for their price point. Id go that route

Edifier 1280T

Thanks for the input guys. I'll take a look at the reviews. Desktop space is limited, thus the need for 2.0 stereo only.

If so really look at the space and budget available, on the upper scale you have the Neumann kh80dsp or genelec 8010/8020, more budget friendly are fostex pm 0.3 and 0.4, or even iloud MTM which in real close space it produces the best bass extension at its size

Follow up question: Will the Fiio K5 Pro be adequate to power a set of passive speakers? Or will I need to buy powered speakers???

Thanks,

At the budget and space all we recommend are powered speakers, passive at that budget are usually crap

I highly recommend you again to at least try "Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker".

Reasonable price, but really amazing Hi-Fi sound including the low-range from the bass unit. You may easily recognize what does "THX Certifled" mean even in this type of desktop SP set. The near-field listening sound quality is comparable with some of the expensive Hi-Fi audio system, I believe.

In case if you would like to try, please make sure to select the "THX Certified version" at

Thanks,

The K5 Pro will not power passive speakers. So your choice will have to be between either active speakers or passive speakers plus an amplifier.

My view is that speakers like the Kali LP-6 or the JBL 305P are a big step up on anything under $200. Between those and the Edifier 1280T, for example, they're in a completely different league.

I found this YouTube review...

This YouTube review is on video game sound examples, but I usually use "Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker" for my classical music and jazz enjoyments, as well as of course for business puposes.

2.0 speakers only. No room for sub. Based on reviews, recommendations and a current Amazon price of $119 US I went with the JBL 305 Mk2.

Thanks everyone for the information.

be reminded that the $119 is for a single speaker, it's a great entry studio monitor, you might want to put it around 10cm from wall and engage the -1.5db or -3db bass

You simply can't beat the Klipsch for the price. I have used them for ages and they sound great. Nice and clear with nice bass, especially against the wall.
