Try bending a sheet of plate or tempered glass and post back.
Glass and Tempered Glass will bend under loaded conditions. It will bend to a point and then shatter.

Second paragraph of above link: “When glass is under load it will bend and accommodate stress to a certain level and then suddenly fail once its threshold is met. The failure can be sudden and spectacular. “

Thank you-this is the type of answer I was looking for! So the plaster walls behind the speakers isn't good?
All the surfaces of a room color the sound to some extent. Your job is to mitigate that as best you can, by using good speaker and listener placement, and by acoustically treating the room.

Nah- it's all good. Just don't want anyone to worry. That a terrible photo of the underside of the middle shelf. I was trying to show there is bracing under there.
