Speaker Design - Audio Specialist Input Required

Hi Guys & Girls - I hope you are all well!

I have just signed up to the site as I am in need of some expert help. I've been keeping myself busy during 'lockdown' by designing a speaker system. My background is actually automotive design, but that crosses over into all sorts of industrial design - where I am getting stuck (and the further I research into it) is in the specialism of the actual audio.

The design is based around basic principles and benchmarked existing products with regards to drivers, amplification and volume. However, I need some help to essentially have someone 'fill the box', pointing me in the right direction for drivers, amplifiers and tuning to get the best sound from the system - even better if someone would be willing to get hands on. I have the final engineered CAD for the body and ready to get a prototype of it built.

At the risk of putting 99.9% of you off helping - it is a portable device and so this means batteries and (ahh) bluetooth. However, the design is relatively unique and differentiates itself from the rest of the usual entry level mass-manufactured units. I also believe getting proper audio-people input is important, I want this to be something that would appeal to you.

If any one is capable of helping or point me in the right direction to someone / a company that can provide the services I need, it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Toby

Portable device is a great challenge, and who says that it cannot be also high fidelity. I am no expert, but perhaps i don´t understand your formulation- you have finished the whole product design without accounting for the drivers and their tuning?

Hi Adam - I have accounted for the drivers and their tuning through the knowledge I have developed through research, benchmarked similar products, acquired a number of off the shelf drivers that have the right specifications as well as reverse engineered some existing products, understood their parameters and applied the theory to what I have designed.

While the outside of the design is pretty much set (but with ability to adjust incrementally) due to the functional constraints and requirements expected of it, the interior is mostly all up for grabs to package and achieve the best acoustics.

When I say I am having a prototype built, I mean of the 'shell' for a visual representation.

Essentially the foundation is there but needs the acoustics and subsequent audio electronics defining.

I hope that helps clarify? Cheers

Might want to try the speaker builder forums at http://techtalk.parts-express.com/
If it's a one-off for yourself, they have some kits that you might find interesting, either simply to build or as sources of "inspiration".

Obviously, if it's a 'for-profit' project, probably best not to lean on others' IP. :)

Hi,
If you are searching for company, which is doing custom speakers project commercially, you might try this one

Thanks mhardy6647 - It is a personal project which I'd like to eventually and see if there is some commercial appetite for. Thanks for the link, it is the sort of thing I need and have pieced together myself, but need a bit more development to make work in the space I have created. It is more about picking an 'tuning' the right components for the space and the effects it would have (and getting the best components to get the 'right' sound).

Adam - thanks for the link, going to have a read of that now!

Commercial loudspeaker products require a ton of marketing skills and manufacturing resources. There are skilled loudspeaker designers out there that can design speakers at any price point and style that you desire. It takes years of hard work to become a skilled loudspeaker designer.
