Hello wonderful people,
I've been reading the forum for about a year and I am really enjoying learning from this incredible resource you've all created.
I'm setting up my first hi-fi system for music and thinking about making a speaker purchase.
I found a pair of 4 year old Revel F208's for $2400 but am wondering whether they'd be worthwhile or worrisome for my unusual, smallish room.
We listen to a wide spectrum of music. I imagine I want to be able to sit, stand, lie down and move around the room and have it sound the same (which may mean i should get coaxials and subs) but I'll likely be loafing on the couch listening.
Budget: $3k
I have a wiim ultra. I'm thinking a 3eaudio A7 or a Buckeye 252 for the amp. So that's ~ $3-500
Room:
16.5' L x 11.5' W x 8' H
Back left of the room has an open entry to a 6' hallway and a few stairs to the kitchen. Back right, an opening to the entryway. Back wall, has a small laundry room behind a hollow door. Left wall a window in the middle and a door near the back. Right interior wall an L shaped couch.
MLP:
~8' from speakers with my ears about 3' from the floor and 4' from the wall behind me.
Speakers would at best have 2.5' from the back wall and 2-2.5' from the side walls making the speakers about 6-7' apart.
SPL at LP maybe 85 or so, usually less, perhaps 75. Unsure as I only have a Polk Mini and find 90 on it intolerable. Perhaps I'll play more loudly with decent sound.
Unusual Things:
A cast iron wood burning stove in the middle of the front wall 27" from the left speaker and 21" from the right. The drivers would extend beyond the face of the stove by 8-10".
There is a partial brick facing on the wall behind the stove that extends 4" from the actual wall.
Behind each speaker a built in bench which are both brick faced and measure 38" W x 15" H jutting out 13" from the back wall. So the bottom third of the speakers would be 15" from the bench.
The right speaker would also be 8" from the end of an L shaped couch which is the only seating in the room, likely partially obscuring the sound path. I may be able to move the couch back 6-8" to gain some space.
Admire the chaos.

I've never had speakers set up before and while I'm inspired by what I've read here on the site to get a UMIK , REW, some kind of dsp, learn how to use it all, take measurements and treat the room, I'm inclined to get these towers and forget the rest as anything would be a vast improvement over the Polk mini.
I live far from a big city so it's a little expensive to audition multiple towers in the room without eating away too much of the budget. I could bide my time, audition some bookshelves and maybe a tower or two see what kind I like and what sounds good in the room. Or...
Should I throw caution to the wind? Is the room too crazy for the F208s or is it crazy enough that it just might work?
In retrospect this seems overly effusive and I hope I haven't strained your patience.
If you've taken the time to read this and offer your thoughts, I thank you kindly.
