I am a novice when it comes to music refinement and new to using PEQ but have been reading PEQ can improve the measurement issues with Sony SSCS-5 speakers. Other then throwing them away and buying something new, I'm hoping there are some budget minded folks out there who have already fiddled and found some success getting some bottom boost and taking out some of the shine without sacrificing quality. I do find these speakers to be fine in my use case (and parsimonious budget) but I'm digging for some improvement... squeeze some blood out of the stone so to speak. Any help out there?

You might want to start with Amirs suggestion for PEQ.....

I was looking for a little more depth but yes… it’s a start!

Regular graphic EQ is easier to "play around with" with than parametric EQ.

With a small speaker you can only boost the bass so-much before you push the amplifier or speaker into distortion. ...You'll never get "realistic" bass you can feel in your body from a small woofer. ;)

"Bass problems" are also related to the particular room so there are no "standard" settings" for a particular speaker. (The other frequencies are affected by the room too but the bass range generally requires more precise adjustments.)

With this speaker, it's probably best to start with Amir's recommendations and then adjust by-ear from there. It may not be worth measuring your room, but if you want to do that you can get a measurement mic (about $100 USD) and REW (free).

I would also just try amir's settings as a starting point. If you want more bass try a low shelf starting at 100hz and see what you can do without causing too much distortion. Depending on your amp keep in mind that it could be the limiting factor in that if you start trying to go much beyond +10dB or so.

I have added an Elac Sub1010 to fill in the bottom... probably should have mentioned that. Using the PEQ imbedded in WiiM Pro Plus streamer. I'm of that age where learning new things requires more synapses than are available to me. I'm trying... :)

I am probably more in need of where to take frequencies that ring my bell. I did find some good info buried in the middle of the review thread from @QMuse @MZKM and @BYRTT Definitely well on my way.

Thank you!

your only gonna squeeze so much out of those little speakers, save them for the bedroom setup with maybe a little dayton audio HTA20 or HTA100

I recommend a step up in speakers maybe the ELAC debut b6 2.0 would be a great match for you and nice budget friendly option.
a huge step up in sound only twice as much as a decent EQ.
