About mid February the amp in the shop died. It was a Adcom 5200, I bought it used yrs ago, the only time the shop is heated is when in use in the winter, in the summer temps can get about 100 degrees. It is a cheap Sony dvd player - PS audio Ultralink (DAC) - Onkyo Integra P-304 (preamp) - Adcom - used Advent speakers. After constant searching the local used market, I finally found a Parasound 275-v2 amp, but the used speaker market is terrible. I broke down yesterday, went to Best Buys and found a returned set of Sony SS-CS5 speaker, open box 1/2 price. As it basically background music in the shop, I felt they could work.

I was surprised, one speaker the foam packing had been removed, but the other was still sealed up. The speaker is a 3 way, 5-1/4” woofer and a small midrange and tiny tweeter, a port in the back with decent binding post. I hooked everything up and they do not sound bad, nothing I’d be happy with in the house, in the shop not bad. I donated the Adcom to a electronic class to be dissected, the Advents were scrapped

Got to have music in the shop

Given the fluctuating temperatures in your shop, you might want to think about adding some basic climate control for your audio gear. Keeping the temperature and humidity levels consistent can really help extend the life of your equipment, especially if you plan on adding more stuff down the line.

And iIf you're into DIY projects, consider building custom speaker stands or enclosures. It could be a fun project and might improve the sound quality in your shop. Plus, you never know, you might stumble upon some cool vintage gear in the local market that just needs a bit of fixing up

I could stop being cheap and just set the min temp at 55 degrees.

The Parasound amp was like brand new, no scratches, dents, stains or marks of any kind. Original double shipping box, manual and all the cable it came with. Still on their website, 90w@8 ohms /140w@ 4 ohms, huge transformer and about 20#.

That is a good start for sure
