Hello my first own post .

Have an interface issue .
Girlfriends son got some cheap old monitor speakers with only balanced input , currently we use an old dj-mixer unit and a Bluetooth adapter and a 2,5 mm to RCA adapter in to the mixer . Works well.
It’s just big and fugly :)

So we want to find something smaller to use with volume controls.

There are all kind of passive rca to xlr adapters out there , but are those really a good idea , would prefer an active solution.

And not Uber expensive it’s just for fun

Think he's asking for an amp that has XLR output to powered speakers but can take in RCA inputs. If there is a BT input, then it becomes a DAC already. The RCA input would be completely moot. Unless that's a Co-axial input he's referring to there ?

Sorry English is not my native language.

Speakers have xlr inputs , we have a Bluetooth apt-x device with unbalanced out that we could reuse

I see some alternatives here.

Some kind of simple preamp rca in xlr out , we can use our Bluetooth device.

Some rca to xlr converter I would prefer an active one .

there are simple passive plug adapters rca to xlr they are cheap, but how are they wired ?
Can I get some kind of problem with these ?

A DAC with xlr out that has Bluetooth input also wth volume control. ( we scrap our current Bluetooth device and go with what’s in the DAC )

The topping DAC’s seems a nice idea . Thank you

This device from Kali audio https://www.kaliaudio.com/mv-bt#Specs-Section-MVBT seems like a good idea if absolute fidelity is not an issue.

Thank you for your time and advice, appreciated

That looks good to me. Bluetooth lowers fidelity so much due to compression that the performance of the device does not matter much.

I don’t now the performance of apt-x Bluetooth compared to regular Bluetooth ?
But for example in my car i’m Happy with Spotify over Bluetooth.

At home on my hifi I want and use better stuff.

But for a fun project for a kid to make use of these old speakers thing similar to the Kali device would be just rigth :)
It would sure be better than most tinny little bt speakers .

Bluetooth is the baseline transmission. Different compression standards can be used on it with apt-x being one of them.

BT or 3.5mm auxillary inputs. XLR & TRS outputs.

Not measured here yet. Although, coming from Kali Audio, it likely should be good.

I would likely use some adapter like this to keep things neat:
