Some jobs you don't want to have...

With all the safety gear he has, he sill needs a guy to pull him back if...

he is electrocuted!
Have they got a video of that working when a fault happens?

Given the ominous humming in the background and the change in its tone I can imagine that if something were to go wrong both the huge flash and massive bang would cause the catch guy to vacate everything into his trousers, become disorientated and just stand there quivering like jelly if he did not fall over.

Does he have to go through qualification before he can hold the pole and move faster than the shrapnel that included more than pulling bad acts off of the stage?

I would be inclined to ask for a big elastic band with an interlock and a big mattress or perhaps some remote controlled pair of robot hands to turn the key.

If things go sideways in there that guy is in the ER (or worse) even having loaded up with all that arc flash gear and even if his friend's reaction time is superhuman. No thanks!

The purpose of the pole is if the working guy get stuck due to cramp if he gets in contact with some dangerous voltage .
High enough voltage and you have no muscle control so you may actually grip the wire harder and get "paralysed" in place .

I hear those guys make a lot of money given how few people want to do it.

you would certainly hope so! lol. I not only wouldn't want to do it, I'd quite literally be unable to do it. I'd get about 30 feet up and my legs would turn to over-cooked pasta. Check out some of the Fred Dibna vids on youtube for some extremely nerve-wracking high-altitude shenanigans.

My buddy's working on a small backup transformer at work today. Only good for about 3.5 MW IMG_20250826_133213.jpg
