I tried the two settings with the Teac VRDS 25x as input, and got the same issue of regular drops.

Works with the SMSL PO100 Pro too. I guess it will work with anything that has a stable clock of 1ppm or better.

- Noise floor is "pumping" when fed by signal from USB, not from Optical input (TBC).

So to get the most out of the front 4.4mm we need to use optical? Annoying...

If I want something else with latest ESS, same or more output power, true balanced 4.4mm, I think I'm looking at $250+.
Would be cool if Topping just executed things better.

Hmm, that's something new again.. nothing like this so far.

As so many units connected optically don't work with this DAC I suggested to topping if they could store more settings like the SMSL unit, maybe some of it works better with this DAC

DX5 II gets a recommendation from me...far more well built unit.

Left the device on Standby mode this morning, and just came back from work. For the first time in a couple of days, the crackling came back after turning back on.
Because I haven't tried it before, I did a Factory Reset from the online Home page. Monitoring.

What was the outcome from factory resetting and monitoring? I'm still using firmware 2.46 because the reports of crackling after time seem to continue all the way through 2.54. I use the device as a USB DAC with a balanced headphone cable on the front and RCA cable for speakers from the back.

If the memory pressure graphs are yellow or red, then it is possible to have dropouts; if it is green, it sounds like there is no dropout issue (but the same issue happens with DX1 1Gen). It happens when the memory load is over 80% and there is heavy swap file usage by macOS

My memory pressure is always green so I don't think that's what's happening in my case.

I've never heard these clicks with any of my audio interfaces or the built in one. I don't know but my hunch is this has to do with something in the firmware related to CoreAudio.

1) I already have the Fiio K13 and I enjoy using it with all my headphones. Now, I want to use optical input and output to make a bridge between the source and the Fiio K13, so I can switch between one device to another, using the same source. Is that possible? Maybe this can introduce latency?

2) The DX1 II have 8 filters to choose. Which one is the best to choose between all of them? What's the difference?

Filters from the ESS ES9039Q2M DAC were already measured by Amir too in 2024 on the Topping D50 III review:

Edit: thinking about it, this D50 III is like the father of DX1 II as it uses same DAC chip, same DSP software, same balanced/unbalanced outputs. They have added the front IEM HP amp and jacks, a simpler display, the 4.4mm line out jack, Toslink out and UAC mode. Removed Bluetooth and 12V trigger.

@NTTY could you please check whether enabling this EQ still increases the noise floor around the 100 Hz band? And maybe a lighter EQ replacing this extreme +/- 12 dB with more regular +/- 4 dB for example?
