Some info about Topping's incoming DX1 II

I just wanted to ask, what are you plugging it into? PC? And also what port are you usuing. Do you mind uninstalling drivers and software and just trying it as is?

No problems encountered at all on any firmware and 32/96 USB to PC.

Is it possible to change sound level from within Windows, or is it like in FiiO K11 that only physical knob can be used? I'll use it with Tidal in exclusive mode.

You can control it via TOPPING Home WEB | Web Control Center: https://home.toppingaudio.com in 4 ways:

• Click +/-
• Scroll the mouse up/down
• Click and hold the left mouse button, then drag up/down
• Click and enter the numbers

USB 3.0 port (blue) on the back of the motherboard. I can try without drivers today..

But the issue with the Fosi Merak CD-player isn't with PC as it's pure optical, so they need to do some firmware work there for sure.

Yeah that is weird, please try without the drivers. I got a reply from Topping assuring me its firmware and not hardware, lets hope this is the case

Yeah, I'm sure it's the firmware, that's why we have received so many attempted fixes so far.

After the many firmwares for DX5 II I promised myself not to purchase instantly, I guess I forgot, but this will sure be the last time

It depends on your goals. I have DACs for all my needs. I'm well aware of the DX5 II adventures— first attempt Topping at building PEQ into an inexpensive DAC. As well as Chinese electronics products in general. I knew the product might be buggy at first. Or always. So I've accepted the loss of $130 and am calmly awaiting the arrival of this technic wonder .

And multifuncional devices with DAC, integrated preamp, headphone amp, eq are more complex. Look at the Luxsin X9 and how many firmware upgrades were necessary within the last year.

I am very happy with my Topping A90 and D90SE stack. The EQ is done by EAPO. Within the last 5 years I made one firmware update on my D90SE.

To be fair they already "conquered" the hardware world with all kinds of features and sizes and price ranges. What was left was to start the software journey, and it can also be reused into several products moving forward. Not impossible at all, look how WiiM started and how well it turned out for them.

I would divide it even further.
Software is one thing, digital filters and such is an entirely other.
Let's not forget that filters involve the sole (other than electrically physical) most important danger: levels.

Only a look here, at the forum and one can't find more than 5 people formally educated and experienced to those, moreover the ones who can code as well.
Proper EQ engines can't be made for dead cheap, both hardware and most importantly proper people.

At least for companies, that would need cry-once, pay-once, they better get it in their heads and swallow the hard pill.

That's all very well, but I hope Topping aren't saying that the latest firmware update is the fix, just because it says it is.

Tested fine this morning. No crackling after turning back on from Standby.... weird lol. Maybe because I had already switched inputs?
I'm personally still glad I got it, but I absolutely understand others sentiments towards Topping when it comes to released products. I'm also curious over the fact that we had four firmware updates in quick succession (2.54 came out in less than 24 hours!), but then nothing since.

Left the device on Standby mode this morning, and just came back from work. For the first time in a couple of days, the crackling came back after turning back on.
Because I haven't tried it before, I did a Factory Reset from the online Home page. Monitoring.

It is "impressive" in the context of DAC/Amps without additional power sources. For example, on the spec sheet, DX1 ii outputs 3 ~ 4 times more power than DX1. I have never seen a DAC/Amp without additional power source produces this much power (I may have missed some devices). Topping G5 outputs a similar level of power but it has a battery. I wonder what changed, why this level of power was not possible before.

This! I already own the DX1 and it's great in terms of power, also considering I have partial hearing loss, but the DX1 in high gain sounds just right for me and no distortion at all.
The DX1 II should be another winner.
I also own the G5, it sound great, very clear, despite I need to turn the volume up quite a bit, but as you mention it is battery powered and that is somewhat a draw back, since it's not so portable in return, and the battery tends to run out fast, since I use it in high gain. I almost always use it with the PC as a sort of desktop dac usb connected, when I travel.
Also tends to be a bore making sure it's charged before use, otherwise it will not work if battery is too low.
I guess I'd probably be better off with a DX1 II for that use!

However... after reading the whole thread, I may be better off wating to see if Topping will fix all issues, otherwise a second DX1 1st gen could fit my needs (first one has been working with no issues so far).

For those with the bug, do you have auto display off or do you leave it on? Currently I use L1 brightness.

I've always been using L1 brightness. For what it's worth, i've customised the knob double-click for Display off, but that doesn't cause the distortion when i've used it.
It's only really been when coming back after a while (sometimes) with the device on Standby that I get it. I'm just glad I don't get it when in actual use!

Right now I left it with L1 on for a few hours. Came back, works fine.
As I'm pretty much normally always a screen-off type of guy it's not at all odd that I've had so much trouble

Ok, LV1 screen on works a lot better than screen off, but I still got the bug after a bit over an hour of use

As it's now I'll stop using it until a new firmware is released

I see mine has reached customs yesterday. From there it can take up to 10 days before I receive it
