How many subs w/ your Salons?

Motorcycles... find your own thread.. lol. Rather than giving a blow by blow account of the past few weeks since ordering these... I'll cut to the chase. They arrived, with damage to the boxes, no internet for days so silence, but speakers and grills are safe. They are finally set up and sound miraculous. I took a few family portraits before selling the 208s to a first time Revel buyer after proselytizing the virtues of the brand... and have him and his wife converted. After listening to the 206, 208 and Salons, I asked the wife he can get a pair of Salons and she said.... "Definitely, some day." So, mission accomplished.

Thanks. The lamp is my DIY mashup using a Viet Nam era recoilless 100 mm cannon shell, a LED candle and other stuff. The base is a 1950's Saltzman tripod, supposedly once owned by Diane Arbus. I bought it in the Village in NYC is the early 80's, close to where she lived (and died). I didn't pay a premium for that unproven provenance. There's a fictitious film with Nicole Kidman as Arbus about her life called "Fur", in which she's portrayed using a Saltzman. I haven't found any of the real Arbus with a Saltzman, but it was THE go to tripod for large format cameras with photographers in the 50's and 60's, especially around NYC, where they were made. I have 3 of them. One pictured with my favorite toy circa 1962 "King Zor".

A major congrat's on your new Salons.
Your gonna be over the moon with happy listening.
So tell us, what's the first CD in the lineup to play when the power goes on?
BTW, I imagine that Mac amp of yours should be just about a perfect mate!
Enjoy
... the soundtrack of my life... really LOUD. For the first time... I felt like I was in the second row... let there be songs to fill the air... lol. Thanks.

For music, rather than HT? Wow. I guess I need to get over thinking that as a 4 way, they should produce a full range and multiple subs are overkill....
Multiple subs well calibrated smooth out room modes over a larger seating area regardless of program. So for anyone who ever shares music multisubs are a huge benefit regardless of the mains' capabilities.

I obviously had various expectations prior to ever hearing the first note from these. Those expectations were fewer than the "revelations" that occurred. The first, is how full and intricate these sound at low volumes. Another is the "from the kitchen" effect... lol. In my case, since I live alone (not counting my fearless pup) it was me that had to come from out of the kitchen to smile at what was emanating from the other room. The practical effect of this is, now music is on nearly all day in the background from the Salons, rather than firing up a separate rig in the room that I'm occupying. At realizing that I was an actor in the very scene that we joke about (my wife came in from the kitchen... ") I had to laugh out loud at the "finding religion" nature of the moment. "Once in awhile you get shown the light... in the strangest of places... if you look at it right...". C.D. (Carpe Diem)

What's up with the door on the binding posts? No way it closes when using banana plugs. During such a long production run, I thought this would have been "fixed"?

Remove the silly doors and put them in the speaker carton.

This thread is just joyous... happy for you (and slightly envious!)
Enjoy

Don’t use bananas, they shouldn’t be used outside a lab. They are not permanent connectors.

I think these locking bananas are what Amir uses, if I recall correctly, but I may be wrong? This is what I'm currently using. No good? What do you use?

Crimp/solder on some good ring terminals, then the wires elegantly exit out the bottom.
Ring terminals and speakon rule.

Since you had the F208s prior, did they never give you this effect? And in general, could you compare the difference between the two seeing as it looks like you had them side by side for a bit. I'm very curious since I'm still manically debating with myself between pulling the trigger on a set of F208s or going into negotiations on a set of Studio 2s.

They absolutely did. I loved the 208s and was happy for them to be my last speaker... then... well... you know what happened... if you've read this thread... a deal that I couldn't resist. IMO the 208s are incredible value. I can't comment on the Studio 2s, I've never heard them, but was also tempted. They're running about 3x what the 208s are selling for on the used US mkt. I'd get the 208s and wait until you find a pair of Salons in a few years for the current cost of the Studio 2s. Am I happy to have sold the 208s, no. Was it worth it to make room for the Salons, yes. The Salons are altogether another type of experience for me from anything I've had in a previous listening room. I'm sounding like a shill for Revel. I'm not... I'm just following the sirens call.

Bare wires will result in a gas tight seal if done nicely. Don't twist it, just stick it in straight if you can and tighten to a gas tight seal.
What's my bid on these lightly used locking banana plugs? Bidding starts at $1 USD...
