How many subs w/ your Salons?

The Monster has more front suspension tech but the Harley Davidson has the power I guess and the Buell has that low center of gravity.
They both had Showa forks with the Ducks being inverted. Buell had the same inverted forks on the slightly
more expensive X1. Check out the Buells front brake! The trick with the Buells front end is the single 13.5 rotor with perimeter 6 piston caliper. The unsprung weight of the combined front end components is so much lighter than any dual disc system. This allows much improved control by the damping system of the forks. Real smart engineer Eric Buell,
and a good Telecaster axe player too.
He's back in the motorcycle business, this time in the cruiser line, guess he's gettin old like us all.
Built on the FXR style frame he designed for H-D back in 1982, a 175HP Roland Sands Design V-Twin engine, and light weight at 450. Looks to be the perfect ride for the adrenaline junky biker like me.
If only I was a few years younger.

Motorcycles... find your own thread.. lol. Rather than giving a blow by blow account of the past few weeks since ordering these... I'll cut to the chase. They arrived, with damage to the boxes, no internet for days so silence, but speakers and grills are safe. They are finally set up and sound miraculous. I took a few family portraits before selling the 208s to a first time Revel buyer after proselytizing the virtues of the brand... and have him and his wife converted. After listening to the 206, 208 and Salons, I asked the wife he can get a pair of Salons and she said.... "Definitely, some day." So, mission accomplished.

I must say it is a bit of a strange design choice by Revel to have the speaker's acoustic center that high up. Is that the reason Toole put his speaker's upside down?

Not really, if you've seen the photos it's because they sit on/in cabinet shelves that look to be about 30-36" high

I see that now, the tweeter ends up at about the same height as if the speakers were standing on the floor.

No internet for five days... so no streaming music... so no music. I had to stare at the them for 5 days in silence. It was transcendental on it's own. My connection just came back... so it'll be awhile before I finish the story... but I will. Thanks for joining the trip down the rabbit hole.
Just think ... if you'd had a turntable you would have been up and listening on day one ;)

More seriously, those Salons look amazing, congratulations! and thanks for the thread which is great reading.

I'm interested how many Salon owners are running with and without a sub. I've been listening with and without my Dynamo 1100x 12" sub. So far, only a few hours of listening, I like it with the sub. Are you guys using one, none, two or more? Really?

just curious, are you using any room correction / eq?

Not yet. Room treatment was done without measurements. I've got a UMIK and need to learn how to use REW on some level. So, no.

Subs stay off for 2 ch, but HT still benefits immensely from them.

I run mine with 4 15” subs. 2 monolith thx subs and a custom Tyler acoustic passive sub cabinet that contains 2 15” drivers powered by a buckeye bridged amp. I like some ooomph. I have a large room with a cathedral ceilin, I wanna feel it.

For music, rather than HT? Wow. I guess I need to get over thinking that as a 4 way, they should produce a full range and multiple subs are overkill.... obviously another shattered myth that the non-faithful ASR multitudes have bounded past. By the way... didn't I buy a UMIK from you a few months ago Todd? I'd like to get a second sub, but I'm concerned that integration may be a tech headache beyond my current knowledge. I'll probably stick my toe in the water and post initial REW measurements here, hoping for the ASR Brainiacs to take pity on a luddite wretch such as myself and cast light on the abyss before me.

I rarely watch movies so just for music. Movies are pretty good in my 5.4 setup. Again I have a semi large room 18’ x 24’ with a high cathedral ceiling so it is not too much. Sarumbear helped me measure my room with REW without any subs and came to find out I have a nice room. I of course much prefer the sound with the subs on. Nothing like feeling a little bass. I probably could use a REW pro to make sure subs are properly integrated but it sounds pretty good to me. I know that is not a very scientific approach but i’am a simple caveman and too much science gives me a headache. Sometimes the discussion on ASR is over my head but I love coming here to read about everyone’s audio journey.

I don’t recall selling a umik but then again as an old hippy maybe I can’t remember.
